  1. Hey Everyone, Just delisted our hand sanitizer and happy to be finally done with making it. I have about 1,000 gallons left of denatured alcohol and I would love to find a use for it other than the old dilute and dump. Don't need to make any money but if anyone has found any other industries or uses that we can donate to I am open to hearing about it.
  2. I appreciate the quick response. Was hoping to go through a supplier so that we could continue to get the bottle reliably moving forward over the next few years. This is a great start though, appreciate it.
  3. I know this is beating a dead horse with all the shortages and shipping delays right now, but does anyone know of any glass suppliers that have inventory in stock? We have a contract client that is flexible on style and shape so I am open to working with anyone that has decent inventory in stock. Everyone I have talked to is quoting me a 6-8 month lead time which is (I think) ridiculous. Anyone have any ideas or leads?
  4. So some background, we have been using these bottles from the same supplier for 5 years with no problem and I have never seen this issue in my history of 10 years of distilled spirits production with any glass. We use compressed air to blow out bottles before fill and we are using a timed pump filler to fill. Hard to get a picture of it but it looks like condensate marks or stretch marks in the glass itself. I dumped it and tried wiping away the residue on the outside and inside and it doesn't come up. In the same pallet of glass this issue only appeared in the 100 proof tincture spirit we produce and the 80 proof vodka that went into the same bottles didn't have this issue. I am stumped honestly. Does anyone have any idea what this is?
  5. I had a request from a local farm that wanted to buy bulk alcohol for tincture making purposes somewhere between 10-15 gallons. They have a state permit for purchasing bulk alcohol right now from a control state. However they don't have any federal permits and looking through the available permits I couldn't find one that they really fit in (wholesale was closest but they don't need to resell it). They have been buying from a big supplier for years and I want to help them out but I cant figure out how they can do it without a TIB permit from the feds. Does anyone have any experience with this? They are across state lines so I really want to make sure I am not doing anything illegal.
  6. A lot of the European equipment comes standard with DIN fittings. We ended up just getting a bunch of DIN to triclamp adapters with teflon gaskets and were way cheaper than getting the pieces switched out by the manufacturers. Unless you were really tight on space I would recommend just getting adapters.
  7. Looking for anyone that has extra Decanter Contessa Bottles 750ml bottles. Happy to pay well above market rate.
  8. Frederick, Maryland. Shoot me an email at braeden@mcclintockdistilling.com with your address and I can get estimated shipping.
  9. We short age ours in a Madeira wine barrel. Starts off bright pink like a Rose but fades to a lighter pink (salmon) after 9-12 months but doesn't turn brown like some of the other solutions we tried.
  10. You don't have to redistill after macerating to be classified as a "Flavored Vodka". For proofing anything with obfuscation (especially if you are adding sugars) you should do a bench distillation to proof (if using like a snap50 or DMA35 equivalent digital densitometer). If you have one of the fancy tabletop machines that run like 10k you can put the spirit right in and it can proof it with sugars and suspended solids.
  11. We have a few hundred 270 gallon IBC totes that we are trying to get rid of. All refurb in like-new condition. $80 FOB per or best offer.
  12. What is the heating source for the still? We use an undersized agitator that works fine (including grain-in mashes) for a steam jacket still, but you would definitely need more agitation for direct or jacketed heating elements.
  13. Hey Everyone. I am in search of a high quality digital PH meter that works with suspended solids. We have been using a cheaper model for years that seems to need to be re-calibrated every week or two and we have been replacing them about once a quarter. Does anyone have recommendations on a good, lab quality meter that they have used?
  14. Awesome thanks so much. It was the 10 mile limitation that I couldn't find anywhere out so I appreciate the attention to the memorandum. Appreciate it everyone!
  15. Hey All, I called the TTB about this a few times and got several different answers so I figured I would throw this out to see if anyone had any experience with this. We are looking at signing a lease for a storage facility/rickhouse nearby our distillery and I wanted to see if I would need to submit a new DSP application or could amend our current DSP to include the new space. It is not attached to our building and is owned by a different company than our current facility but is less than a mile away. Please let me know if anyone has a similar setup and what they were required to do. If I need a new DSP I would rather get that submitted ASAP so we are not paying a lease on a building that we have nothing sitting in. Thanks!
  16. Hey Southern, If you still have black flakes in your distillate after you cleaned the condenser and column it might be charred proteins from the grains. We had a distillery near us have the same experience with on-grain distillation when they switched (continuing to distill using an electric heating element). I imagine it would be tough for them to get through a column but with enough pressure (which you might have with a large pot and narrow column) they could feasibly make it through. They reduced the problem with a silicone wrap on their coils, but ended up switching back to off-grain distillation because they never could fully get rid of the flakes. Hope that helps!
  17. We have a 1000 L Kothe Pot Collumn Hybrid still and run our caustic and citric solution through the pot hooked up to the CIP recirc pump. We use a 1% caustic solution and a 2.5% citric solution and haven't had any problems with clogging in the spray balls. It works great to remove any organic matter and the citric does a pretty good job to remove any DMTS/DMS on the copper. We use a gin basket after the column and we do an extra 20 minutes on all of the plates below the condensate return (bottom 3 plates on ours) to remove any excess oils that have come through the u-bend.
  18. All American label has been great to work with. They are very responsive and have a relatively quick turnaround (for larger orders) and we have been satisfied with all of the labels we have gotten from them. Not sure about small runs, but if you are looking to scale up they are the best pricing out of the larger label manufacturers that we talked to.
  19. We tried a few small batches with cranesbill root and chicory root as a fixative, but neither one of them had as good fixative properties as orris or angelica. You do get a great chocolate-coffee aroma with the chicory root but after 3-4 weeks we lost a lot of flavor. We ended up incorporating both in our recipe and added 100 grams of angelica as well and that seemed to do the trick.
  20. I didn't but I will be sure to give you a shout-out next time I talk to them. Thanks again for the help bluestar, we appreciate it.
  21. Thanks everyone this has been huge. They approved the Magrabar in case anyone is looking!
  22. Ditto to Southernhighlander. We put a VFD on ours and it is really quiet running at 40hz vs 60hz. Great for your holds and mixing in enzymes, but we do run it at 60 for the mill in.
  23. Hey Everyone, We have been using a dimethylpolysiloxane based anti-foaming agent in our mashes to prevent the fermenters from foaming over since we opened. We are also going through our the organic certification process right now (I will save my thoughts on that whole mess for another thread) and the certifying body is having a problem authorizing our anti-foam as a processing aid. Does anyone have any experience or know of any other product that can be used for anti-foam suitable for distilleries? I can't seem to find any that pass of the approved solutions that are also consumable. Appreciate the help.
  24. 2 1000 liter plastic fermenters for sale never been used. Comes with lockable lid and bubble caps for each one. Forkliftable, conical bottom and ball valve attachment. Looking for $900 each or $1700 for the pair. Shipping from Maryland.
