  2. I'm starting up a (very) micro distillery and looking for a solution for an electric stripping still. We're going to be distilling off-grain with electric heat to start to avoid the need for a boiler system. I've got my spirit still sizing/sourcing figured out but I'm having trouble sorting out where to buy/source my stripping still. I need 1000L capacity minimum and I'm trying to avoid a bain marie style still. Most companies I've talked to are recommending not to use electric elements in the stripping still to avoid scorching, but I know people who are using electric with low watt density elements and having no issues or off flavours. Thoughts? Recommendations for companies who can provide such a still?
  3. SOLD TO A VERY NICE HOME Hey everyone! We're almost ready to receive our new still so it's time to re-post this beauty This still was awesome for me. It enabled me to grow my business for 3 years before investing in a huge system. I was able to stay fully electric for years, significantly cutting down my initial investment costs. I was able to run everything on one still, stripping ferments, spirit runs, gin runs and rum all in one place. In year 2 I added an electric continuous stripping still and that kept me going all the way to the end of year 3. Now its time to go big, and pass this starter system on. (I'm not selling the continuous stripper yet, but we can talk if you're interested) We will run this still 6 days a week right up to when we turn it off. If the buyer wants to come down and see it in action, we'd be happy to provide on-site training for a few days. 8. Hello there. What we have here is a Figgins Reciprocating Still. 2000 Liter system capable of making 0.5 L of 160 proof Alcohol per minute. A lot of modifications from the original state. We added custom Stainless Steel heating elements. We also added mixers to keep the wort moving during heating up. I added two extra plates on top to make 190 proof for Vodka. The control panel is an excellent piece of hardware and essential for an electrical still like this. The still operates on 208v 3 phase. You'll need at least a 150 Amp supply. If you only have 100 amps ( like I did in the old days ) you can operate the still on one kettle. I have won two awards for the Single Malt made in this still. One from ADI and one from SIS. Its an excellent still and a decent size to get your DSP and distillery going. You get all you see in the pictures. All you will need to work this still is the power / water / and air for the mixers ( if your mash has suspended grain in it ). If your rum man...you probably wont need the mixers. We've switch to steam, and need the space for a bottling machine. It's a great still. It comes with all the stainless brackets etc..you see in the photos. $35,000. Located in Charlotte NC>

  13. Hey guys, So we are thinking about upgrading to a 12" 16-plate reflux still. I think that a 200 Gallon boiler would be sufficient. At the current time we are running a 8" 8-plate still on electric. SO if we were to choose steam we would also have to invest in a boiler. If we were to stay with electric would it be possible to run a still of this size? what would be the power requirements? As in how many 15kW heating elements do you think it would require? Thanks
  14. Well, we jumped the gun ever so slightly and picked up a used bulk tank for use as a mash tun. 300 gallon capacity, was used to make sugar syrups prior. Pretty good shape, has the agitator but needs a new motor. Single wall, no jacket, domed bottom. So now comes the tricky part... easiest/smartest way to turn this thing in to a cooker? A couple contraints: We're not doing steam, so that's out and we won't likely have 3 phase power for the foreseeable future. We're looking to cook 100% corn or a sugar wash for starters. Move on to a more standard bourbon grain bill after that. Which makes the handling of electric elements tricky with the whole scorching issues. We are open to the possiblity of strikewater if we absolutely have to. Probably not the ideal set up but we're starting on a shoe string and this tank leaves us good room to grow (or even convert to a big pot down the line!) Here's a pic of the new baby. (Damrow 300surg gallon dairy/food tank.)
  15. Mad Buffalo Distillery, in Union Missouri, has been running our prototype unit through its paces. Now we feel its ready for prime time. 150 gallon charge capacity 12" bubblecap column electric heat with vegetable oil as a hex fluid 2hp agitator, with explosion proof motor full CIP (again explosion proof) below you can see Chris at Mad Buffalo getting ready for a whiskey run, and bottom most picture is a (steam) full modular system with all the bells and whistles that we can do do in full electric now. Electric bain marie is great for the application where steam is just not an option, Natural gas isn't available, or for a "Green" installation where electric heat is preferred.
