  4. We are upgrading our system and selling our 615 gallon combination pot/column still. We used this to make everything from vodka to whiskey. It is all currently dissembled and being cleaned. This still was used for 1.5 years. All of the parts are marked with a corresponding diagram of the still. We are currently asking $60,000 for the complete still. Please PM me if you are interested. Cheers, Winston
  5. Hello All, I recall sometime ago flipping through a digital issue of Distiller Magazine and happening across an article called something to the effect of "50 often forgotten pieces of distillery equipment". I bookmarked it in my mind and I thought I had copied or saved it somewhere, but now I'm trying to track it down and am failing. Does anyone know where I can find it online or have you come across something similar that you could share? Thanks everyone!
  6. Looking to buy used equipment for a small start up. (not from China) 55 to 100 Gallon copper pot still to make Vodka. 55 Gallon still to make Gin. 3 fully jacketed ferment/mash tanks. 1 Two roller grain mill.
  7. Purchasing a new boiler and the contractor is suggesting that we locate it on the floor as close to the mash cooker and still as possible. Less install cost and minimal loss through the piping. Since we have to move things around anyway to accommodate new equipment I am trying to maximize the space. What is the minimum safe distance to place a 15 psi natural gas boiler next to the still? Any other considerations?
  8. I'm looking for a recommendation on a pot still and rectifying column small enough that I can perform R&D, but that is scalable to production size while maintaining (roughly) the same flavor profiles. Product: relatively high ester rum Variables: type of molasses, fermentation time/temperature, yeast strain, etc. Budget: $3-5k
  9. Anyone else graduate from a gravity fill to automated mono-block filler/capper? I use screw caps and bar tops which are both applied singularly with an ROPP capper. I also use a 6 spout gravity filler. Any recommendations for a manufacturer? I've contacted Borelli and Arol with no luck on an 'inbetween' system. 9,000 BPH is extreme and expensive, but 500 is not enough. Any leads are useful; thanks friends!
  10. Distillers - What setups are you using for chill filtering? I'm looking for a lower-cost, lower-volume solution for a startup distillery. Please no vendor responses at this time...thanks.
  11. My systems are all electric, so separation is a must. At the moment, I have a way to separate via a press, but the press requires a hiccup in the process flow while it is filled/pressed/emptied. I would love to have a Russell Finex machine, but 20k (as I hear they cost) is not a doable number right now. I know Dehner started a thread about a version of this that he is designing, but does anyone know of a secondary market for equipment like this? Are there any other manufacturers making something like this for a lower price? Alternatively, for those unable to distill on grain, how are you separating solids from your wash? Any input appreciated. ( )
  12. Well, we jumped the gun ever so slightly and picked up a used bulk tank for use as a mash tun. 300 gallon capacity, was used to make sugar syrups prior. Pretty good shape, has the agitator but needs a new motor. Single wall, no jacket, domed bottom. So now comes the tricky part... easiest/smartest way to turn this thing in to a cooker? A couple contraints: We're not doing steam, so that's out and we won't likely have 3 phase power for the foreseeable future. We're looking to cook 100% corn or a sugar wash for starters. Move on to a more standard bourbon grain bill after that. Which makes the handling of electric elements tricky with the whole scorching issues. We are open to the possiblity of strikewater if we absolutely have to. Probably not the ideal set up but we're starting on a shoe string and this tank leaves us good room to grow (or even convert to a big pot down the line!) Here's a pic of the new baby. (Damrow 300surg gallon dairy/food tank.)
  13. I have attached a picture of a 300 gallon mash tank for someone starting up that doesn't want to spend a lot of money. I get 10% conversions with it. I'm getting too old to get in and clean out the grain so am going to something with a side door. Please call me with questions: 608-335-2461
  14. I have a four head Enolmaster filler and all of a sudden the last head farthest from the input side quit working. I get a few drops out but nothing more. The other three seem to work just fine and this is a new development, all four have been working flawlessly for almost a year. Any ideas, or is there a troubleshooting guide on line anywhere?
  15. We just finished a 1,200L Still for one of our USA client. I'd like to share the photo with you. 17. I've been to several distilleries where they have a setup that appears to include a pot still and a column still. Most of these places are making whiskey and neutral spirits. Am I just interpreting a component of the pot still as a column? I've been under the impression that columns pull out all of the flavor but increase efficiency. Thanks for any clarification you can provide.
  18. I have made an agreement with a carbon filtering company to produce carbon chill filtration assemblies for my clients. As some of you know, I offer water/glycol chillers for the "chill" part of the process and will now be able to Match sizing and calculate carbon requirement and custom assemblies to fill clients needs. I am looking forward to discussing this product with you all. Mike Gronski
  19. Some of our California Artisanal Distillers Guild members may know that I've had an ongoing interest in manufacturing distilled spirits. It's fair to say that after a certain number of years in the brewing business most of us start thinking about making spirits, as a natural continuation of the processes we are already involve with. I am at that point in my career where distilling no longer interests me as a business start-up operation. Consequently, I am letting go of the distilling equipment I've kept in storage. I would love to see someone put this into operation and good use. So, I have for sale: 2 - Used 25 hectoliter (660 gallon) Alambic Charentais with wine/beer pre-heater. These two stills are matched, left and right, for easy operator function, all in excellent condition. FOB Oakland, CA see Attached manufactures photo. 20. Looking for a 50gal test still and a 50 or 100gal mash cooker, used preferably, new if we have to. Please message me or reply for more contact info.
  21. Hello, I am looking into building a distillery and have a good idea about what it would cost me to purchase a couple of batch systems from Vendome (looking at a 750 gall + 250 gall pot still system - very similar to what is at the Evan Williams Experience in Louisville), but what I am unclear on and what Vendome cannot confirm, is what will I have to spend on everything else to make that whole system run at the site we are considering. So after I buy the milling equip, the cooker, fermenters, stills, tanks, etc., what will I have to spend on the back end to hook up and run all that stuff? --- ie, water systems, engineering, plumbing, pipes, fire suppression, explosion proofing, etc., etc. What are the big things to expect to spend a lot of money on? And what will my requirements be for electric, HVAC, gas and water? I think that for a column still system the back end costs are much more expensive than for a batch system, but I still cannot determine what I should be expecting. The building I will be using will come with explosion resistant wiring and fixtures (required by code for all distilling areas) and has an old water tower on the roof that I think we can use. Plus there is a stream close by we may be able to draw from. Any detailed insight would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
  22. Hi all, great forum, so much good advice on everything! One thing I've been looking for but have only found bits and pieces scattered throughout the forums is complete system (grain receptacles -> hot water tanks -> mash tun -> fermenter -> still -> spirit receiving -> barrel) sizing advice. I know there are an infinite number of ways to do the same thing so let me try to make this question as specific as possible. Starting with a 1000L (aprox 250gal) pot still and working our way backward what size fermenters, mash tun, hot water tank, grain storage would you all recommend? I've heard various things such as a bigger mash tun and fermenters i.e. 2000Lish then doing 2 runs from one fermenter... thoughts? Or should things be sized 1:1 i.e. all 1000Lish... thoughts? are more smaller sized fermenters advantageous to fewer larger feremters, i know cost between 2000L and 1000L is usually much better than 2x 1000L... Then, starting at the same 1000L pot still and working our way forward, what size and qty. spirits receivers for stripping run? cuts? do you barrel straight from these receivers? Assuming barreling to 30gal barrels. Looking for advice from all your infinite years of wisdom, if you had to do it all over again, what is your IDEAL process flow?!
  23. We are selling two of our 500 gallon fermentors. They were purchased new 2 years ago and are in perfect working order. They have agitators, glycol jackets, CIP and sample ports. Please email tours@privateerrum.com for questions. The spec sheets are attached in a comment below. They are from NSI and in Ipswich, Mass. They do not need to be purchased together. Cheers, M
  24. We are a distillery in San Francisco, CA focusing on making whiskeys from craft beer and are looking to expand our operations to distill and brew in house. We have been on the market for roughly 20 months, have a proven track records with two whiskeys available for purchase, a third release in April of 2015, a vodka and a line of craft bitters. We currently self-distribute but have a distribution network taking over in October to expand our reach throughout California. To facilitate our growth and reduce our costs of production we are seeking to purchase a 15bbl brew setup and a 250 gallon copper pot still. We are currently looking for financing options to purchase this equipment. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate them.
