Hi, I've been through every posts till 2015 and havent find anything on foraged botanicals so here is my question: Let's say I forage wild botanicals in a foreign country and make a spirit with these botanicals abroad then import everything bulk to be bottled in the US; knowing that every botanical is on the FDA list, do I have a chance for my formula to be approved even if the botanicals don't come from a certified provider? Thanks a lot!!

Hey everyone, Has anyone ever tried to get a formula approved with the herb Meadowsweet (latin name Filipendula ulmaria)? I'm experiencing a lot of difficulty with my TTB officer at the moment. I know of multiple products that list meadowsweet right on the bottle/label, so I'm curious if anyone has any ideas why they want to deny me use of this herb. I've gone through three rounds of formula corrections all coming back negative. What do you guys think?

Continuing to work on my distillery plans. I'm 3 weeks away from signing a lease and still have some unanswered questions. FYI, I'm going to be making rum (sugar, molasses) and whiskey from malt extract, i.e....no grains and no mashing. Question: are floor drains actually "required" by the FDA? I know many highly recommend floor drains, but I'm trying to set this up as clean of a facility as possible, and would rather not have floor drains that would a) harbor a place that could produce TCA, and b) cost a lot of money to install into a facility that I will be leasing. That being said, the Current Good Manufacturing Practices state the following: Section 117.20(3) Adequately draining areas that may contribute contamination to food by seepage, foot-borne filth, or providing a breeding place for pests. Section 117.34(4) Provide adequate floor drainage in all areas where floors are subject to flooding-type cleaning or where normal operations release or discharge water or other liquid waste on the floor. So, does anyone know if they are really required, or just a really good idea? Cheers, VB

This is a first in 16 years of operations. As far as we understood, DSP licenses are not regulated by the FDA. Does anyone have any documentation that says one way or the other? We do have an FDA number, because we bring in yeast for the fermentation of molasses and fruit brandies, but as i mentioned, this is the first time in 16 years that we've been inspected. Has anyone else been bothered by FDA?
