Hey all, I'm currently working with a building owner to map out our space, water and power requirements. We are going to be using a Hoga Alembic still 1000L (264 gallons) and we don't think steam generator will be an option given the space and building layout. We are exploring other heating elements and wanted to get some expert advice from you fine folks on preferences/ pros-cons of inserted heating coil(s) vs. an industrial hot plate of sorts. We are also wandering what time of power input would be required for those as well as water usage rates (ie. how much to keep that condenser cool throughout a normal run)? Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Alex

condenser water temperature and effects on distillate
MG Thermal Consulting posted a topic in Brandy
I would think variables like entering coolant temperature, flow and the exiting temperature of the product all would have some effect. Engineers designing chemical condensers are usually very particular about all of the above.- 1 reply

Been working hard on this thing, and I'm very happy with it. Here are some shots of the boiler top and still head coming together as one. Manway is on there now. Welding is ensuing. The boiler body is on next. Will update as we get into that part! If any of you out there are interested in a still made by hand for a reasonable price, please contact me! I'm really enjoying this project and would love to get another one in the line up.
