  2. Surf City Still Works is the first distillery to operate in Huntington Beach. We have a clear vision of where we are headed and what our values are, and we are looking for a new team member who is just as excited as we are about our future. We treat everyone with respect and work continuously to cultivate a work environment where we can all grow and thrive together. Since we are a Craft Distillery and do not operate a kitchen at our current location, we are limited to serving 1.5oz per person unless it is a private event by CA law. We will be building out a kitchen in our new location which will lift the 1.5oz limit. Our team is a cohesive and supportive group who has an aligned focus on our future & vision. We have been fortunate enough to be the first to distill and bring craft spirits to Huntington Beach, and we aim to continue educating those in the greater Orange County area about the craft spirits industry. We believe a rising tide lifts all boats so we have cultivated a positive and supportive relationship with surrounding distilleries, who would otherwise be called our "competition". The successful candidate will be someone who is excited about our growth, has values that are aligned with ours, has an interest in the craft cocktail culture, and is willing to learn the skills required to prepare and make the cocktails on our menu. The successful candidate will also have strong guest service skills and previous experience as a bartender and/or bar back. The role you will be applying for will impact our operations greatly. You will assist our head bartender in a way that allows the cocktail making process to flow smoothly and efficiently. In the meantime, we will train you on how to make our cocktails and the culture behind the craft cocktail world so that you will be fully prepared to handle shifts on your own. Our customers come in with the expectation that their cocktail(s) will be spectacularly made and Instagram-worthy (kind of kidding on the IG part, but not really...). The skills we will teach you will allow you to meet their expectations every time, and then some. Responsibilities: - Assisting the head bartender in prepping, garnishing, clearing, cleaning, etc. - Delivering cocktails to guests - Closing out guests in a timely fashion (we use Square, which is really easy to use) - Knowledge of our cocktail menu to better assist the head bartender - Help with opening & closing tasks as needed Requirements: - Great people skills - Upbeat personality - Open availability - At least 1 year prior experience as a bartender - Knowledge of craft spirits & experience in creating craft cocktails a plus Potential Roles this position could lead to: - Head Bartender - Mixologist - Tasting Room Manager - Distilling Assistant - Warehouse Manager Please respond to info@surfcitystillworks.com with you resume and a brief note about how you see yourself in this position. Cheers!
  3. The California Artisanal Distillers Guild has introduced legislation to update, clarify and expand our Type 74 Craft Distillers License. All concerned DSP's in California are urged to join CADG and help in this endeavor for 2018. This bill was written with Senator Nancy Skinner with Principal Co-Author Senator Jerry Hill. The application to join is on the CADG website https://www.cadistillers.org/ and we welcome associate membership as well. This will be a monumental undertaking with strong opposition and we need a united California distilling community. http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180SB1164 Cris
  4. We are looking for an experienced spirits sales representative to help us grow our pipeline in Southern California. We have some great accounts, but are looking for additional help working with more local restaurants, bars, and retail. We have a family of well reviewed spirits, and an amazing story along with branding, bottles, and a distillery/tasting room tied directly to the heart one of the areas largest tourist destinations. This is a great opportunity for someone that understands the market and how craft spirits compete against the larger brands. Please email me at defiant12@gmail.com if you'd like to find out more about our distillery and this opportunity. Thanks!
  5. Hi everyone, I am the founder of a new, pre-launch Whiskey brand based out of Los Angeles. We're fairly organized, but not yet staffed fully, and working to complete our first round of fundraising. I'm not a distiller, so I'm hoping to learn more about the process, and maybe find an experienced pro or two who are intrigued by the idea of getting involved with a vertically integrated mass-market brand at its inception. If anyone is located in LA and has professional Whiskey distilling experience, I'd love to meet up and maybe buy you a drink (gin, I'd imagine...). Great to meet you all! Andrew
  6. Hi there! Are you looking to make your own brandy or make an amazing one of a kind gin using only high quality California grape spirit as your base? Look no further! All our spirit is distilled from quality California wine. Available at $12.50 per proof gallon. Contact Aaron at Asilverstein@spiritechglobal.com or 707-577-7515
  7. I was informed that in California, distilleries can produce spirit for wineries and if those spirits (brandy and pomace brandy) are produced from the winery's grapes the spirits can be sold by the winery under their tasting license. Does anyone have experience with this? Can you point me to the state laws related to it? One place I distill is a small Oregon brandy distillery, and it would be a lot of fun for us if something similar could get passed in Oregon. I am hopeful that seeing a framework operating someplace else might give us a starting point.
  8. Hi all, Currently working as a Master Distiller overlooking all operations in a rather big grain to glass distillery (vodka, gin, whisky, etc). I am looking for the right partner/investor to create 2 brands (to start with) as a distributor company. The point is to have no building and no equipment! I find there are already too many distilleries and some of them are struggling reaching ends but there is still a lot of room for new products so we might as well all work together. And plus I'm no fit to work between walls, I need to be out there talking to people and showing my product! I have 2 brands with a huge worldwide potential, have the bottlers on the East coast and West coast and all suppliers, all is left to do is the branding and finishing my recipes well under way. I have extended experience in entrepreneurship and in the spirit industry (sales, distilling, consulting ...) Maybe someone with cash and no time/knowledge or someone with experience in marketing strategies/sales/distribution or someone living on the East coast with plenty of time and sales skills... the most important thing to me is vision and passion. I'm looking to relocate to the US West coast but am in no rush and don't NEED a partner. I give myself 1 year to make the move but am open to speed up the process with the right partner! I'm a free spirited person with a big work ethic and very hardworking. I'm a Canadian citizen.

  10. Our Sonoma County, California based craft distillery is looking for investors to take our business to the next level. 11. Over the last two years, I’ve brought our concept to reality - - and we are a turnkey operation. To date, I (plus a few friends and family) have invested over $1M and 25 months of effort to create Los Angeles’ first combination distillery and brewery. Three others exist in the state (Bay Area and San Diego); all are successful. Currently, I’m seeking someone passionate about craft distilling / brewing who will help shape the business and brand. That person has to have unwavering perseverance, tenacity, and a level demeanor to interface with customers and accounts. We have already done the time consuming work of getting a physical location, legal authorization, and licensing (federal and state). We need help branding and bringing new products to market. We are looking to move quickly. If you’d be interested in discussing it further and becoming a part of it, please shoot me an email to discuss this opportunity. Link to photos This is not a solicitation to buy shares in our company. We are seeking interested parties to hear more about opportunities in distilling. Solicitations will only be made privately to qualified investors.
  12. The Department of Health (California) says that we need to file for a Processed Food Registration (PFR) for our (soon to open) distillery. It entails about $500 in fees and an inspection to ensure compliance with production process controls, sanitation procedures and labeling and advertising requirements. It seems a bit gratuitous since we are basically making a sterile product. As far as labeling, I thought that was under the purvey of the TTB. Has anyone else dealt with this? Searching these forums, I am surprised that nobody else has mentioned it. Thanks, Earl
  13. Hey everyone! Just wanted to say hi. Hopefully you'll all be seeing a lot more of me in the coming months. If anyone near Oakland ever wants to grab a drink let me know, always down to talk alcohol and meet like-minded folks. Cheers! John
  14. I've been a lurker on this site for some time and figured it was time to join and actually participant. By trade I am a second generation beekeeper and I'm currently looking into opening up a commercial distillery in Sacramento, CA. Well I should clarify, I've decided that's what I'm going to. While I'm early in the process I anticipate utilizing honey in my products as well as taking full advantage of my agricultural network. -Frank

  17. Hello my name is Anthony, I am apprentice/assistant distiller at Ascendant Spirits in Buellton, California. I am new to distilling, but my path here has been quite interesting. I studied Biomedical Engineering at Cal Poly and got my degree with a focus in microbiology, biologic systems, and industrial applications. Got an internship at a biotech company dealing with yeasts and fermentation making biofuels and other chemicals. After my internship they said I got a job, but through some bureaucracy (which I'm sure you're all very familiar with), they didn't have a position for me, and I didn't get a job. I continued looking in the brewing industry with my new fascination with yeast and fermentation, but I came too late, the market is saturated. Dabbled in the wine industry but it's too slow paced for me. Through a fun turn of events I got connected with Stephen Gertman who was going to start a new distillery, and he needed someone with a strong background in science and engineering, and understood the principals of fermentation. Few months later it's a reality, Stephen just got word yesterday that we are legal to make distilled beverages in the eyes of the feds and state. And although I am new to artisan distilling, I am very much eager to learn as much as I can. Thank you for providing this space for distillers and enthusiasts alike to come together and collaborate each other's knowledge and ideas. -Anthony Cano

  20. Hello, We are in the process of trying to get a distillery setup in California and have run into an issue with regards to the building code. It appears that a distillery falls under Section 306 - Factory Group F, subsection 306.2 Factory Industrial F-1 Moderate-hazard Occupancy. (Which includes "Beverages: over 16-percent alcohol content.") Our problem is that the building we are looking at was not built for this type of occupancy and therefore will require some TI's. Unfortunitly, we are not exactly sure what TI's we need to do. So, I was wondering if anyone else has run into this situation and what did you do to resolve it? (The county building department is asking that we provide a Plan Review which includes a floor plan. Additionally, we need to include an electrical plan, plumbing plan, mechanical plan, details of construction/.engineering and a Title 24, for those items that would be applicable.) Does anyone have any plans they might be willing to share? Thanks! Gordon
