  7. APPLY Summary: The Minden Flour Milling Company building, a National Registered Historic Place, will be converted into a craft distillery named Bently Heritage. The new distillery will be one of the first operating in the state of Nevada since Assembly Bill 153 was passed earlier this year, allowing local distilleries to operate. This puts Bently Heritage in notable company with fellow Silver State artisans as well as landing Minden at the forefront of a burgeoning new industry. Bently Heritage will live up to its name by reintroducing the best traditions of the Old West, while embracing New West values such as sustainability and premium quality. The Assistant Distiller is responsible for assisting in the development the Bently Heritage collection by creating and developing various craft spirits, planning, executing distillation operations, overseeing production, managing inventory, and compliance. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Run the day-to-day production. Keep the production schedule on line with the orders and distribution schedules. Maintain all equipment owned and/ or operated by the company. Clean and rinse equipment used for the production of spirits. Assist in all aspects of production, including milling grain, mashing, fermenting, and distilling spirits, as well as bottling, labeling and packaging spirits. Conduct lab analysis; cataloging of samples; track compliance data for all distilled spirits produced on site. Filling, weighing, gauging and placement of barrels, as well as labeling barrelheads with serial numbers and other identifying information. Order supplies, material, and equipment relevant to operations of production and within budget. Take, record, monitor and control all inventory per TTB laws and regulations. Provide a production inventory by the 10th of each month to be used for submission of monthly tax reports to the TTB. Education and/or Experience: Required to be at least 21 years of age Bachelor's degree, preferably in chemistry or a related field 1-3 years professional brewing experience; must include operation of brew house Strong mechanical background a plus Proven ability to work with little to no supervision and be able to follow directions. The purpose of this judging is to help promote the craft spirits industry and the people who are producing the finest quality artisan spirits, bitters, aperitif and fortified wines and to give participants valuable, unbiased, third-party feedback on the quality and process of their spirits. WHO CAN ENTER? ADI accepts entries in all classes and categories of craft spirits from US and International distillers, blenders, bitters makers, and producers of aperitif & fortified wines who are: Independently Owned: Less than 25% of the producer is owned or controlled (or equivalent economic interest) by alcoholic beverage industry members who are not themselves a craft distiller, blender, bitters maker, or producer of aperitif & fortified wines. Small-Scale: Producer has maximum annual sales of 100,000 proof gallons (about 473,000 liters/52,500 9-liter cases). WHAT DO I GET FOR ENTERING? Double-gold, gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded with certificates for spirits judged worthy of recognition. All entrants will receive tasting notes with comments from the spirits judges. All entrants will also be considered for our Packaging Awards and be evaluated to see if they if they meet the standards for ADI’s Certification of Craft Spirits at no additional cost or paperwork. Award winners will receive a physical awards as well as a digital renderings of all applicable medals, awards and certifications. Judges reserve the right to not award medals when, in their opinion, no spirits in that category merit an award.   9. Our attendees are eager to Call for Presentations at ADI's 2018 Craft Spirits Conference & Expo in Portland Oregon Come share your expertise at the largest distilling conference in the country. Our attendees are eager to learn from their peers and industry experts about all things distilling, from setting up their company to making important marketing decisions to dealing with exports and fulfillment. There is increasing interest for specialized presentations around technical decisions, expert topics and upcoming trends and research. You can submit several separate sessions if you would like. We reserve the right to combine presentations that deal with a similar subject in panel sessions. If you are not ready to present, but would like to suggest a session that would benefit our industry, you can email us at speakers@distilling.com. We also welcome your suggestion or submission of White Papers and case studies (to be potentially used online and at the conference). All submissions will be reviewed by an expert committee. Interested in submitting? Here are our tips: Create a presentation title that clearly describes your session. The shorter, the better. Identify your target audience and level of knowledge (basic/start-up, intermediate/confirmed, expert/master) Identify your track (marketing, administration, technical knowledge, general industry knowledge) Identify your presentation format (lecture, roundtable, hands-on, panel) Write an engaging presentation description in 150 words or less. Summarize course objectives, learning outcomes and specific skills attendees can expect to gain from your presentation. Providers (vendors) to the industry should bring a customer as their main presenter to share success and failure with their peers. We choose presentations based on the interest for our attendees. Indicate if you have a book and if you'd like to do a book signing. Deadline for submission is SEPTEMBER 15, 2017. Presenter Expectations Keep the number of presenters to 2 maximum, unless on a panel. All co-presenters must actively participate in the presentation. Keep the timing of the presentation to 45min or less, unless special request is made Presentations must reflect the description given at submission. To be considered, your session must be educational in nature. No sales pitch will be accepted. Presenters are responsible for securing and paying for travel and lodging. ADI will provide Speaker Passes as well a discounted guest pass for the Conference & Expo. Material should be original and will be shared with our attendees (for copyright reasons, you can submit an abridged version of your presentation to be offered to the attendees after the conference if you so chose). You’ll be infusing a whole lot of Dogfish love in the Delmarva market while educating consumers on our delicious spirits portfolio of goodness. With general guidance from our Regional Spirits Sales Manager, you’ll be supporting summertime activation plans, nurturing great relationships with our beloved accounts, engaging with fans at distillery events, festivals, off premise tastings events and such and brilliantly executing the Kegged Cocktail Program. You’ll be assisting in securing placements, negotiating awesome shelf positions and positioning displays as you continue to build the Dogfish Head Distilling Co. brand loyalty and commitment. You’ll be hosting weekly events, including tastings, festivals and cool promotions throughout the Delmarva region. In addition to the craft, the successful candidate will also care about the business of spirits production and will seek to lend process perspective to budgeting, planning and equipment discussions. You’ll be charged with establishing, documenting and maintaining SOPs which includes maintaining our recipe book. In this role you will support the timely execution of our master schedule to achieve all spirit production goals. We’ll also be looking to you to track, inventory and log all phases of the production process to ensure all Compliance and Regulatory reporting comes off without a hitch! You’ll surely need to be a champion of cleanliness and proper sanitation, ensuring that our production facility, storage area and equipment are always pristine and ready to go in a safe manor. As our Distiller you will embrace spirit education for Dogfish coworkers and guests and will support its delivery, understanding that information breeds enthusiasm and oftentimes translates to sales! You’ll need to be a collaborative, communicative team-player who fosters great working relationships with peers. Teamwork makes the dream work and we dream big at Dogfish. What You Need To Land This Gig: The qualified candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of progressive commercial spirits distillation experience. A Science or Engineering major will be a serious plus! You’ll need to have an understanding of distilling and brewing science and a working knowledge of the equipment and systems that go along with it with an emphasis on practical brewing/distilling techniques aimed at quality, consistency and flavor. Having a stellar track record of formulating and producing world class spirits and beverages also won’t hurt. Solid computer skills must also be in your tool chest as well. What You Need To Land This Gig: The qualified candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of progressive commercial spirits distillation experience. A Science or Engineering major will be a serious plus! You’ll need to have an understanding of distilling and brewing science and a working knowledge of the equipment and systems that go along with it with an emphasis on practical brewing/distilling techniques aimed at quality, consistency and flavor. Having a stellar track record of formulating and producing world class spirits and beverages also won’t hurt. Solid computer skills must also be in your tool chest as well.
