  1. I've been in production for about three months now, and have several pieces of equipment that I realize I will never need, including: (2) 6" to 2" tri-clamp reducers - Paid $66 for each of them. Looking for best offers. (1) 6" x 48" spool with tri clamp connections - $150 (1) 5BBL Plate Heat Exchanger from CPE Systems - $1000 Thanks! Brock
  2. Hello, I built this beautiful counter flow heat exchanger last year. It consists of 4, 10' lengths that all mount on a nice low profile cart. Each tube consists of 1.5" inner tube, withe 2" outer tube. Each section is connected with 1.5" sanitary connections. Outer shell has 3/4" FNPT connections for cooling water or glycol. Please DM if interested, looking to get $3000 CDN +freight for it. The exchanger is located in Ayr, Ontario. Canada I do not use it anymore because I have been able to get sufficient cooling times on my tank jacket with agitation. Thanks,
  3. I'm starting up a distillery in California where running condenser cooling water to waste is a non-starter. Our still is going to be powered by a 5 MBH (15 hp) boiler. I'm assuming, just for the sake of argument, that we're running 24/7 and that 50 % of this heat makes it to the condenser where it has to be removed. Chillers that can remove 2.5 MBH are expensive and use a lot of electrical power. So I'm wondering, can I use a radiator type heat exchange to dump most of that heat to atmosphere? My condenser has two stages so I could run a water loop from the first stage to the radiator to get rid of most of the heat and then connect a chiller to the second stage to get the condensate as cold as I want to. Presumably this would allow me to run a much smaller chiller. Has anyone tired this? Is it worthwhile? Thanks in advance.
  4. We are selling this coil. we used it with a mixer in a 330 gallon stainless steel hoover tote to cool our mash. it has a thermometer well, a fork lift hook-up, and stainless cam-lock fittings. we are asking $1,200. brad@flatrockspirits.com
  5. I have 5 used Armstrong WS heat exchangers available. They are 2 pass shell and tube designed for steam on the shell side and liquid on the tube side. Some surface rust but a wire wheel and a fresh coat of paint will make them look new. We are using one as an instant hot water heater when we have our boiler running. $400 each or $1,800 if you buy all 5. Willing to consider reasonable offers.
  6. Anyone out there have experience building a distillery utilizing green techniques? We are constructing a small, downtown facility in a town that has adopted the new IGBC, which we want to meet or exceed. Our engineers are working on a system w/heat pumps / exchangers for heating and cooling equipment and are trying to find ways around a steam boiler and chiller, which they feel is inefficient. We would appreciate the opportunity to speak w/anyone who has tackled some of these issues.
  7. We're one big step away from being physically operational - the chilled water loop. After getting back a couple bids that were well over double what we'd budgeted, we've decided to take this one on ourselves. Right now, I've got one big question, but I'm sure there will be plenty more. The question is ... Do I need pumps on the return line to get the water back to the holding tank? Let me explain the system to help you better answer the question: The chilled water will be stored in a 3000 gallon poly tank that sits outdoors. The water will be chilled by a 35 ton glycol chiller and heat exchangerWater pumped from holding tank ---> into heat exhanger (with glycol loop on the other side of the heat-x) ---> then out to the distillery equipment ---> then returning back to the holding tank We have 8 pieces of equipment that need chilled water: 500 Gallon Vendome Pot Still (Dephlegmator and Condenser) 22' Dehner Continuous Still (Dephlegmator and Condenser) 1000 Gallon Jacketed Mash Cooker (Steam Sparged) (5) U-Jacketed Letina Fermentation Tanks Mike Gronski is helping me with the main pump and heat exchanger. I'm planning on a 3" main chilled water line. We will "drop" off of this main line to each piece of equipment. Depending on the pressure of the main pump, we may add pressure reducers before each piece of equipment. To keep everything nice and clean, everything needs to run overhead just like the steam pipe. The return lines also need to run overhead ... otherwise I'd let gravity take care of the issue. So ... Do I need pumps on the return line to get the water back to the holding tank? If so, any recommendations? And I'm all ears to everyone's 2 cents on the whole system. Big thanks in advance for any advice. I'm sure I'll have more questions as we get into this. P.S. Don't try to drag-and-drop pictures onto a post. Your browser will simply open the picture ... in the same window/tab that you've been diligently writing your post in ... and you will have to start everything all over.
