Back in 1995 while kayaking the Grand Canyon I was enjoying a sip of whiskey and had the thought that the only way that moment could be better was if I had made the whiskey.

Well seventeen years and 10 or 11 more trips down the Grand my brother and I have just received our DSP and are finally up and running.

We first joined the ADI 3 years ago and have been quietly lurking and mining the forums for information. About a year and a half ago I found a German still that was built between 1880 and 1910 and brought it back to Salida. Last January Lee and I bought an old auto body shop in downtown that was built in 1900 and in March began the renovation. We submitted our DSP online in late June and recieved our Permit on November 13th! Grain should be in the door next week and we will be off to the races.

I wanted to thank everyone here your posts in the forums over the last 3 years have been invaluable. If you are planning on coming out to Colorado for the ADI conference try and take a few extra days to get up to the Arkansas River Valley and say hi. We have great skiing, world class fishing, biking, hiking, rafting, 5 breweries, 2 wineries and 2 amazing distilleries!

Cheers,

Cool still. What did that cost ya? If you don't want to say no problem.

A friend of mines Dad had it in his shed in Louisville KY. Rudiger had brought her back from Germany in the 1960s and always wanted to fire her up. To make a long story short he was more interested in her doing her job and not just sitting around so I got a very good deal :D !

Five Months for your DSP doesn't sound too too bad. Any major issues?

No nothing major one bond correction and a vacation for our specialist. It took until mid August to get assigned so that was the biggest delay.

Very interesting looking still, what is the capacity? Also, was that column and condenser part of it, or did you get those separately? (Those valves coming off the plates and the stainless parts look a lot more modern.)

The column, gin basket and condenser where built by Vendome, it should give give us lots of flexibility. It is pretty small at about 50 gallons but we will add a stripping still fairly soon and be able to make just about the right amount of booze...

Looks like a very nice historic styled facility. That still you have there is an interesting piece to be sure, are you planning on hanging all those stainless triclamps on it somewhere or is that for your planned stripping still?

Ashley only gets two triclamps one on top and on on the bottom the rest get attached to various hoses pumps fermenters etc. There never seems to be a lack of things to attach to other things around here!

I hope everyone has a healthy and prosperous new year!

Last Friday while skiing at Silverton Mountain

I got an email from the TTB telling me that we finally got label approval for our whiskey and formula approval for our gin! I am hoping for a quick turnaround on the gin label...

Great couple of weeks here in Salida I'm making lots of booze and the tasting room has been super busy! Getting close to having our core cocktails set and am really enjoying the direct customer feed back on our product!
