Assistant Distiller Wanted - Eau Claire Distillery is seeking an enthusiastic, outgoing, career minded individual to join our production team and be a vital part of the growth and success of this exciting new industry. Eau Claire Distillery is Alberta’s first Independent Craft Distillery and is located 35 minutes south of Calgary, Alberta. The distillery features state-of-the-art Arnold Holstein/Bavarian distilling technology. This position reports to the Head Distiller and is an excellent opportunity for career growth and mentorship.

The Ideal Candidate would have:

  • A strong background in brewing and/or distilling science – minimum 3 years practical experience preferred.
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in a related science and/or a Certificate or diploma from an accredited Brewing/Distilling Institution.
  • A good mechanical aptitude with fundamental knowledge of process piping, pumps, and valves for fluid transfer; measurement of temperature, pressure control and flow rates.
  • A working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practise (GMP) and Food and Drug Regulations.
  • A working knowledge of Food Safety, Chemical Handling and Safety, including WHIMS and MSD sheets.
  • A working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Confined Space and Fall Protection requirements.
  • Excellent computer skills, be detail orientated and be able to document all spirit production as required by the Federal Excise Regulations (Canada Revenue Agency) and Provincial Liquor Laws (AGLC).

Duties and responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:

  • Execute all grain mashing, fermentation, distillation, blending, barreling and bottling.
  • Produce gin, vodka, Canadian rye, single malt whiskey and other distilled spirits.
  • Manage ingredient purchase and inventory.
  • Manage bottled and barrel inventory, fill sales orders and shipments to retail stores.
  • Responsible for executing barrel management program.
  • Guide distillery tours.
  • Promote distillery at events and tastings

Candidates should be physically fit and be able to work flexible hours and shifts, including weekends, when required.

This position is available immediately. A compensation package commensurate with education and experience; includes a continuing education allowance, travel allowance and basic benefits.
