iskiebaedistillery
Hello all, Looking at a location which has an overhead radiant heater as a heat source for the space. I am not familiar with this type of heating, but from what I have read, it sends energy waves causing the objects in its path to heat up. Now, besides that fact that it scares me to be the ''object'' in the radio-waves path, is this kind of heating compatible within a distillery? Griffin Claw
As far as human contact with radiant heat goes, there is nothing to worry about. Infrared heat has nothing to do with the "dangerous" ionizing radiaiton, (UV, xrays, gamma rays,...) the human body readily accepts and emits IR. However IR heaters are inherently NOT explosion proof and should not be used in a class 1 explosive environment like a distillery.
jeffw
If you are going to have a boiler, I doubt you will need to use your radiant heater. I have never once turned my heat on, even when it was 20 below outside because my boiler kicks off so much heat. Just food for thought.
iskiebaedistillery
Thanks for the info guys. Griffin, thanks for the info, they will have to be removed then I am sure. Jeff, I wondered about that, that is nice to hear from another cold climate distiller. Thanks!
iskiebaedistillery
Hi everyone, this is an older subject but a new space I am looking at has an natural gas heater attached to the ceiling. Is there any problems with this as a heat source?
iskiebaedistillery
I believe this is the one: http://www.qcsupply.com/modine-hot-dawg-heater-model-hds.html
Moonshiner11
Electric is a ton safer than gas. Comparable if not cheaper than natural gas and almost always cheaper than propane by a ton. However, that said there are only a couple good controllers out there that will hold up. Message me if you need a link to one.
Sailor
Mooshiner11 Wondering if you would be kind enough to send me the link for controllers that will hold up. Thank You
