Stone Fort Distillery
for you guys who are doing stripping runs. What are you guys storing them in. I am looking at stainless steel drums but also came across some food grade hdpe containers. not sure if it would matter if I used the hdpe containers instead. I have a 300 gallon still with 20 bubble plates that I would be running the low wines back through when I get enough stripping runs done. thanks for the input. Silk City Distillers
While a stainless tote would be ideal, you can get by with a poly tote. I wouldn't bother with stainless drums, expensive and not ideal. It's much easier to gauge a single tote on a pallet scale than gauge 5-6 drums. Just so happens a tote is nearly the perfect size for you too.
indyspirits
We've used both -- 200 gallon stainless tote and HDPE poly IBC. I honestly think I prefer the IBCs as you can determine the volume at a glance, they're lighter to work with and the extra 100 gallons is nice to have. Optimally I'd have a 300 gallons SS tote with sightglass. As @Silk City Distillers said, drums are far from ideal.
captnKB
275 poly ibcs work well. Cheap, stackable, easy to move and pump.
Huffy2k
We use 30 and 55 gallon SS barrels. We have all of the 30 gallon barrels sitting on movers dolly's so it's easy to roll them onto our floor scale, the 55 gallon barrels have integrated wheels. Since we don't have room for a forklift, these smaller drums work really well for us.

Stone Fort Distillery
so you guys are just using regular ibc poly containers
Silk City Distillers
My comment has more to do with having to gauge and record 5-6 separate tanks, every time. You can move a tote around easily enough with a pallet jack, you don't need a fork lift.
