Alternative uses for heads

Ethanol Wall Fireplace....

Sell a few of these fireplaces to locals around your distillery.

Then get an industrial ethanol license from the TTB. You can sell the heads to local people.

We sell 1 liter bottles of "heads" at our distillery that are used to power these fireplaces.

There are a bunch of different styles of ethanol fireplaces. Here is one picture.

Teton, that's pretty rad!

We recently bought a small train. Using it to move people about during the tour. Could maybe fuel it with our heads-- would we need an industrial ethanol license to repurpose our own waste?

I'm currently using the heads as a cleaning solution-- give a bunch to our lab guy for the brewey.

Anyone else doing anything interesting?

If you know anyone with a wood shop, they work amazing for cleaning the pine pitch and other saps from wood-saw blades. I don't know if you can market them for that purpose, but they do work well for it. They also work pretty well in the old white gas camping stoves and lanterns if the proof is high enough.

Oh, as a former regulator I've got to chime in here - you can remove spirits (adn heads are spirits) from the distillery only for certain specific reasons and not incur taxes. I'm not going to lecture on this because I'm not going to lecture on it. My point is simple: don't tell TTB you use them to power the tractor. You'll end up paying taxes. And industrial alcohol may sound like a fine idea, but be careful there too. If you are going to put it in window cleaner, for example, you need to be aware that only certain denatured products can be used without incurring liability. Know the rules. What other ideas did I see ... Listen, do what you are going to do, but remember this, you are suppose to gauge the heads (oh god I'm lecturing) that you produce and that means that your records have to account for what you do with them. You can destroy them. I think that is about it. And you've got to name the person who did the destruction. For some in TTB its "no harm, no foul." But for others .... What was the line in Hill Street Blues, "Be careful out there." End of my non- lecture.

Just how many heads and tail you guys making? You should not have much. I know from reading here, it does not seem popular to do what is usual in a big distillery, which is redistill them. But just reading this thread, sounds like you all have too many heads and tails. Maybe that is what needs to be addressed.
