Get your Federal Permit? How long did it take?

Congrats. Yes, as I said, seems a polite call is often worthwhile, since much paperwork inadvertently gets waylaid.

Thanks! Yes the phone call did it. Once they started on my app it didn't take long. The specialist did tell me my app was well done and made her job easier. They may say that to everyone but I appreciated the comments. All that reading of the CFR 27 book helped a great deal. Now just waiting on Cola account to get activated.

Blooztune- I submitted in September also. Didn't hear a word till I called and sent an email. You may want to follow the good advice I got from bluestar and give them a call and inquire about your status. Once they started working on my app the process was very professional and fast.

Thanks dwhuff for the updates, and congrats!

My app finally got assigned to a specialist a couple weeks ago and I got to talk to her on the phone. She was very nice and said that they're very shorthanded and busy, but it shouldn't take much longer. Now it seems that my app stalled out again. Probably just the Holiday season. Fingers crossed that I'll see it soon!

Good luck!

I feel for ya. It can get very frustrating. Hang in there and I'm sure it won't be long. The specialist I had was great and it took her about 4 days to go through everything and there were a few things that had to be corrected. Once she was done she said my approval would come within 2 weeks depending on how backed up they were. It took less than a week and that was with Christmas.

Keep us up to date on your progress. We all do better if we hang together.

I actually called about 4 weeks ago and was told it was just about done. It was a pleasant exchage and a lot of action was going on, then nothing. I've called again and emailed twice with no response. My specialist is on vacation this week, so I wont have any more info until next week sometime.....I hope.

Just recieved my Federal Permit!

Submitted Oct 15th via permits online, sent bond paperwork via USPS.

First heard from triage officer on Oct 30th. Had to correct the signing authority part (had my wife's name instead of mine in there).

Got put up for speciallist review November 2nd.

No action until Dec 7th, when I got contacted to set up phone interview.

Phone interview Dec 10th. Call lasted 2 minutes, they just needed proof I owned the property, and a form saying I was the owner of the company.

Up for final review Dec 31st.

No action until today, APPROVED!

All of my state and local licenses/permits are in place, now the real work starts!

When I get a few minutes I'll have to post an official introduction.

Filed my Fed permit on Aug 28th, 2012 approved Dec 26th, 2012 took close to 4 months, nearly 2 months before they even looked at my application, and this is with me calling/emailing about 1-2 per week (politely checking on the progress). Only one correction was needed in the whole process, the Insurance broker missed a signature on my Bond, I had it corrected and back to the TTB within 3 days. The Feds are really swamped. I wouldn't expect quick turnarounds right now.

Just got my approval! Submitted 9/18/2012, approval 1/18/2013. 4 months. Unfortunately you can't submit paperwork in Massachusetts until you get your DSP, so now its time for fun with the state. I hope its a considerably shorter amount of time.

currently dealing with the TTB for an amendment to our permit and the wait time before first office action was well over 100 days. We're currently in the back-and-forth stage with our "specialist", has been another 2 weeks of that, still waiting on a reply from most recent submission of supplemental information. We thought the process would be more streamlined since we're amending an existing app, but that hasn't made 1 bit of difference (as far as i can tell).

If you are about to apply for a license, be prepared to be well into summer before you even hear back from them...

Well we hit the send button today 12-18-12 for our DSP and filed online. Need to fax a couple of documents (got 15 days, but will do by end of this week) to conclude what I felt we needed for the filing. I'm sure there will be additional information requested. I'll keep a keen eye out on this and post as things transpire. I am definitely proceeding with the mind set of " under promiss and over deliver ". We'll see how long it takes.

Well Feb 28 we were posted for final review the TTB website. We'll see if that process is as smooth as it has been up to now. We had to resend our bond application, we missed that if you don't have a corporate seal you need to have two witnesses sign. Put things on hold for a couple of weeks with the mail. Was told by our specialist that sent us for final review it should be by the middle of this month. Fingers crossed. BTW, we have delt with 2 people at the TTB and they both were very helpful and perfessional between e-mails and on the phone.

Congrats John and Brian (Happy b-day, too)! Just thought I would post an update after speaking with the TTB today. They said the average time is now up to 100 days. It's good to see that the last two folks got their DSPs in under two months. Our application went in 2/27/13. We'll keep you updated.

A brief update. As explained to me by the TTB:

1. Your application gets assigned to a specialist who does a quick look at your packet to make sure there are no gaping holes (i.e. send in 2 copies of your bond)

2. After this process, it gets assigned to a second specialist that goes over everything with a fine toothed comb. Presumably doing background checks, bank checking, etc.

After 3 weeks, we have just been passed to the second specialist. Seems to be going well thus far!

Just to keep everyone up to date. We have received our DSP after 54 days! Aside from having to hold on the phone for up to 45 minutes every so often, the TTB were very helpful and friendly. They have been cross-training specialists from the winery division, which seems to be not as busy at this time.

I had read where some folks "fell through the cracks." In order to avoid this, I gave them a polite call every week to week-and-a-half, just to check in and see if they were missing anything. It also let me know exactly where in the process we stood.

Thanks for everyone's help and wish us luck!

Todd
