Limestone

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

One of the potential locations I am looking at is a historic building with a limestone base. I know the concrete floor needs to be sealed per the FDA, but what can I do with these limestone walls? Is there a clear seal for over them and do they for sure nee to be sealed? Thanks!post-11612-0-22878100-1438065741_thumb.j

MN dept of Agriculture will require that the walls of your production area are washable. Different inspectors will interpret that phrase differently, but I think a very porous and uneven surface like that would be a no-go without building something over it.

Basically, they want to see your production area so that if something got splashed or spilled on any surface that it could be easily cleaned.

Thanks for the suggestions you guys. It looks like someone had the same idea and it has been previously covered with a thin layer of concrete (done poorly and I would like to remove). I like the idea of bringing it back down to the stone, and have a lexan "cover" built over it. There is concrete block above the limestone base, so maybe just pouring new concrete and doing it right is the way to go. I would like to find a clear sealer, but im sure on the limestone it would be tough any how. Thanks!
