  1. I can run and Electrical circles a minimum of 7 times around this kind of talk and have the both the education, track record, and Masters License to prove it all out. I see you are likely drinking on the job again and confused about postings which you are short on knowledge and experience in. The screen name says it all.
  2. I would look at current cost figures for Propane and Fuel oil and have the boiler set up to run both. This is easily done. " There is no certainty with respect to cost differences between propane, natural gas, and fuel oil because fossil fuel prices fluctuate minute to minute, day to day, year to year, and decade to decade. But, over the course of history, fuel oil has been — and continues to be — the less expensive of the three choices." And this is just one article on the subject of many: https://rentar.com/natural-gas-vs-fuel-oil-vs-propane-furnace-boiler-heating-debate/. You can install a good qaulity Scotch Marine Fire Tube Boiler set up to run both fuels and have your choice right on hand which give you redundancy and flexibility. The fuel oil pump drive is disconnected at the drive coupling when you are firing on propane. You still need propane or NG to run the pilot burner when fueling on oil with the old style setups I have run, and they work well.
  3. The Problem with a LOT of these modern package type boilers or vertical units is mechanical integrity and design of internals. They can be near impossible to descale, and the same goes for repairs if major failure happens. There is nothing more rugged than the Scotch Marine style firetube boiler or modified version of this class. If they are correctly installed and run with proper blowdown, control set up, and settings, and chemical feed they will simply outlast any of these new designs which could be considered " throw away " technology in a major lot of cases. They pay for themselves this way compared to something which a Mechanic can walk up to, take one look and see trouble looming immdiately.
  4. Chillers of the type that are used for this kind of duty generally have a Saturated Evaporator Temp. that can run definitely below 30F. Running straight water on that side of the system can be risky, and best to consult MFG. best practices. Chillers designed for climate cooling generally run with an Evap temp around 40F, and they are made to run straight water on the DX heat exchanger. I have not found any substitute for the accuracy of a Refractometer in getting then concentration in the correct range.
  5. PG is correct and you need it with inhibitor. " Dowfrost " is a known spec, but you can get an equivalent from Chemworld that is just as good. https://www.chemworld.com/Inhibited-Propylene-Glycol-p/glacier-55.htm You need to set BRIX with a refractometer to cover below your evaporator range and outdoor temp if you are running a packaged chiller with glycol well outdoors in low ambient. 29 BRIX will get you to about -6F with fair viscosity limit. If you have a chiller in a mechanical room with remote condenser the situation is different. The glycol is strictly about Freeze Protection and you actually lose some efficiency on both heat transfer and pumping when its used, but the advantage far outweighs the added complexity of a glycol to water HX system in many cases.
  6. You can run straight glycol, but as noted above the return temperature is beyond the design limits of the chiller. Generally you do not want anything more than 90F fluid coming back and then not for long. The continuous return fluid temp needs to be lower when the DX heat exchanger sees it. This can be overcome by: 1: removing heat from the fluid before it gets back to the chiller. 2. oversizing the chiller and the return well and running a certain amount of bypass after the condenser return TEE's into the main return line. You still then technically have an open loop because the glycol well is at atmospheric, and it does not really get contamination if your fluid is the right kind of inhibited glycol and water. This also Simplifies your setup considerably and stabilizes your condensing media temp as long as you are not undersized on capacity. Glycol is a very different animal to contain and will leak where straight water will not. This is especially the case at threaded connections and transitions between different types of material. There are strategies to deal with this.
  7. Paul, I take the nonsense you are speaking as a " Compliment."
  8. If you are an American, you should resist ALL of the Metric System with every Fiber of your being......
  9. Here are some more resources: https://www.chromalox.com/catalog/resources/technical-information/Electrical-Wiring-Theory-Three-Phase-Equations-Wiring-Diagrams.pdf https://www.chromalox.com/catalog/resources/technical-information/Electrical-Wiring-Theory-Three-Phase-Equations-Wiring-Diagrams.pdf While I hear 600V is common in Canada, I would not be confortable with this utilization voltage except in a heavy industrial setting and with only very electrically savvy people operating said equipment. This is even the case with some 480V loads as seen in the USA. The problem being both a lack of proper training and the lack of common sense these days which makes things double dangerous at those voltages. I have worked around quite a bit of 480V systems and they are inherently more dangerous than everyday operation of 208-240V. 480 Volts is enough power to sustain an arc, and when things go wrong the fireworks and flashover are much more spectacular. 480V capacitors that are used in HVAC applications can often times hold a dangerous charge that will still be present when the line is disconnected. Those voltages are simply Industrial and need to be approached very carefully and with high respect. This is especially the case in wet environments.
  10. With typical dual voltage motors, you do not necessarily have a choice as to how you connect the field windings and it depends primarily on the voltage you want to run. Heating elements are also designed for a specific " applied " voltage which can be AC or DC. If you power up with half the rated voltage your wattage goes down according to OHMs law equations. If you apply ove voltage to elements they will fail quickly.
  11. This is common, but is not straightforward. When you use a drive on single phase to output 3 phase, it has to be oversized to what the rated HP, 3PH drive for that motor load would normally be. This means the electrical service has to be sized for the VFD, and the VFD has to be configured correctly for the motor connected. While not a perfect solution it can work, but I much prefer not to have to do so if its not absolutely necessary. There is a lot of proprietary gear that is set up this way from the factory, including many washing machine drive motors these days.
  12. This is a tough one. Hanna is an Asian Instrument maker that produces mostly low quality Lab gear. Their Tech Support is NON-EXISTENT, and I have gotten Buffer Calibration Solutions that were mispackaged and mislabeled. As an example I have a full box of PH 7 Solution Sachets that are PH 10 without any doubt whatsoever. If you instrument fails, good luck on speaking to anyone that cares to assist you in getting the matter sorted out. In Water Treatment we used Lab gear made by Hach which was decent Industrial quality stuff. A better Boiler Test meter by far is made by Myron. I am sure there are other choices but as for this brand I advise you try to avoid them.
  13. Inhibited Sulfamic acid is one of the very best for this application when dealing with carbonates and silicates from hard water. I have found it to be Superior in performance to many, For SS you can also use 5 Star Acid 5 or 6.
  14. You have too much pump for what you are doing apparently. Rather than reinventing the wheel, I would change the pump, the impeller size, or put on a VFD. Lauter pumps are generally 1750 not 3450 RPM in my experience depending on total design criteria. There are " Limits " to applying drives to solve equipment mismtach matters. Too many starts per hour is " hard " on any electric motor, especially single phase.
  15. What you need for the absolute best control of this type of resistance heating system is SCR type. There are many outfits that can build you a panel based on your wattage and voltage supply. You can not only gain a lot finer control over the heat, but also extend the life of your elements. This type of system needs adequate cooling generally and should be installed by a Master Level Electrician who understands the Technology well. This will insure that all facets of the build out are rugged, safe, and reliable for long term usage.
  16. This product only has utility in the Surgical Theatre. The idea that is it going to " Make things better " is based on Fradulent "Pseudo Science " and Major " Social Engineering " which is better stated as popular mind control.
  17. There seem to be a lot of fixed ideas running around this subject. All involving undersizing of the chiller. What this does is to introduce a variable that you do not need into your process. That being that your cooling media temperature is not dead on consistent for the entire run, and then you are always dealing with time constraints attempting to chase the lack of capacity. This wastes a lot of time and also effort in real terms. If approached from an Industrial perspective, there are other configurations possible that do not even require the secondary cooling arrangement which is also additional cost and more things to go wrong. Trade off and advantages could use careful consideration of several different approaches. Heat can be reclaimed from any cooling media. I am not convinced doing things on what comes off like the ultra cheap way really saves anything for the long term and it costs a major lot of labor and effort along with inconsistent cooling media temp. Something to consider.
  18. You will still need the correct Chemical treatment for any Steam Boiler brought into service. Intermittent Run Time on a Steam Boiler can be quite a challenge with respect to controlling corrosion through the entire system. It took me 2.5 years to come up with the right program for this particular system, chemical wise. Its not always possible to get the necessary answers from water treatment outfits. With this new wrought knowledge, I would start the next system off on this chemical choice and without any doubts it would likely perform well. The biggest problems in the scenario being dissolved oxygen in the boiler proper and carbon dixoide with respect to the return line. An Aquastat for hot standby on your boiler is a good idea.
  19. The thing about salt softened water is it DOES contain extra free Sodium ions which some people do not realize. Its not great to drink or for other critical uses that require the right kind of purity. This is one reason why coffee made with softened water tastes so bad. Take note that many of the expresso machine makers insist that their rigs be run on strictly " soft " water. This helps with scale build up and makes terrible coffee. A high volume distillation rig would seem to be a good choice if you can spend the power.
  20. By LP do you mean low pressure as in 15 PSIG? What exactly is " Press fit?" The best system is welded fittings, but you will always still have some threaded connections in this type of system where you have valves, strainers, traps etc. Some of the best modern systems are welded SS, which surprisingly is not as expensive as you may think and has many advantages. Othewise you can go SCH. 40 or 80 Black iron pipe. Distillery systems that run intermittently can be hard to control corrosion in. You need hot standby at around 170F on your boiler and the exact right chemical treatment. This is another facet that makes SS piping very attractive. 15 PSI systems run around 12 PSIG which is where your calcs need to be run.
  21. If you guys keep putting this nonsense on your body several times a day, it may destroy your microbiome and make matters far worse than ever.......
  22. For the people who are still able to think for themselves, here is a post I made over at Probrewer for your enrichment and edification as True Humans. I also have tons more critical and high level intel coming in daily from people who know WTF is going on. The real truth will escape and fly right over the heads of sheep and parrots types. What this is, is one of the biggest EVER Psy Ops ever rolled out to see just how far people can be pushed and mind controlled. Its not what it has been made out to be, although its also " something." All of the CGI images being thrown out are FAKE. This is not what this thing would look like under an Electron Microscope even if it was definitely located. We have the Western Countries of 96% Sheep and Parrots, fully incapable of just about any real critical thought, or doing their own research. This is a FEAR CAMPAIGN among other things. In India, all Healing methods are ALLOWED, in the USA its against the law to cure anything. There is no more Dangerous Cartel on the face of the Planet than the Big Pharma-Allopathic Medical system. If you do not understand what " Iatrogenic " means, look it up. If you think 99% of Allopaths are there to help you.... You are grossly mistaken. All of those " True Believers " who will buy into a repeat anything they are told are in an age where all the ling term lies are starting to come out. This is the high Danger of " Belief." Sages and Monks have zero beliefs. They either know or they do not know and there is a major world of difference. " Belief " is what the negative ego " wants " to be true. " Disbelief " is what the negative ego " does not want " to be true. Quantum Physics has been showing for some time, that what you buy into determines what kind of world you will live in. Its your choice. Tyranny or take back your power. There IS Real Intel at large regarding this issue, but people who are locked into Belief Systems and fixed idea will never get it, because they do not want to. This is shameful. Sane people need to make the decision to grow up and take total responsibility for their lives and their health. Anything can be overcome in a sane and sober world. When there is a major profit motive in keeping all the sheep dependent on a " Parasitic " system, this is a very dark affair indeed. It will eventually end badly for the people who are working this against the masses. Look into a strig of killings in the recent past of Several USA Holistic Doctors that were " Successfully using GCMAF " to actually cure people. One man towards the west coast and his entire family were taken out. This is how bad things have gotten here and good men are turning a blind eye towards it because the BELIEVE in the overlords. Thie biggest virus is the mind virus of belief. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1XBb5OgAPw
  23. People need to start critically thinking about what is going on. This is the largest attempted Psy Op in very very long time and its got people running round like pawns on the chess board..... Germ theory has never been proven. The allopaths in the " know " are aware of this fact and also that Pasteur and others of this ilk were mostly frauds. If you " believe " anything you are in serious trouble. No virus has ever been proven to cause sickness in the human kingdom. Also no vaccine has ever been proven to be effective. Its all very clever mind control from the get go.
  24. Yes we do and this kind of control over process is definitely key to getting the best control of your finished product. I have no concept of the types who try to use cooling media that it not held at a rock solid consistent temperature with the " correct " sized chiller to do the job, or other fully consistent temperature cooling media that is not affected by undersized gear and chasing a batch process up the temp curve. If your target is 50F cooling media, then you need 50F for the whole run and nothing less. A large part of getting consistent results is necessarily going to be enhanced by a very clean, very elegant mechanical system that does not require constant attention during the run. There is such a thing as doing things too much on the cheap. If you have natural skills with Electrical-Mechanical systems you will have an immediate edge. If you do not, then your prime directive is to hire someone who understands this side of things and can help you implement them. The internet is a fantastic resource for those who know how to use it. You can learn from both the success and failure of other approaches by careful analyses.
