  1. When we started we used a hydro seive worked like a dream . Basically fool proof set up . Since then we have changed to grain in fermentation and stripping using steam injection . Now when it's time to dump stripping still we pump the slurry into a honey wagon and out to the pigs it goes . Any extra that pigs don't need is sprayed on the land as fertilizer and worked in . So imo if you can't sell it to a hog farmer sell it as liquid fertilizer . If I was going to make a dewater system I would use the air tubes from a airation grain bin . They are 28 inch around and 3 feet long .If set on an incline and turned like a cement mixer.slurry can be pumped into top ,liquid drains thru and the tumble action keepsscreen clear . As it rolls dry material works it's way down and tumbles out bottom of tube . By adjusting the feed rate , the rotation speed , and the rate of incline you should be able to get ur spent grain as dry or wet as you want . Airation tubes are available In galvanized steel ,aluminum,or stainless steel . At this stage in production there no need for stainless . Tim
  2. There are lots of options for boiler water treatment that will not affect injecting into food products . You can't get rid of minerals from water all you can do is hold them in suspension and blast them out when u do your morning blow down . Tim
  3. Alot depends where in Canada ur talking around here your looking to at 5 to 7 bucks a bushel for malt barely and 6 to 8 bucks a bushel for spring wheat . That's cleaned delivered . Where your from is the big factor ,were lucky ,lots of producers here and malt plant 30 miles away. Tim
  4. It all depends how big of batches you are making , if you contact bsg . Or any enzyme company they can tell you exactly the type and amount of enzyme you need according to your mash bill. Tim
  5. Hang in there 8 to 10 inch grain cap is normal , allow it to drop on its own there is a fare bit of fermentable sugars in that grain .as long as the cap is still floating it's still fermenting. Tim
  6. Thanks that's the kind of review I was curious about Tim
  7. Hello all I was wondering if anyone out there is using a Waukesha number 10 positive displacement pump . Tim
  8. What's specs on pump ,how many hp will it push grain in mash. And how much for just the pump Tim
  9. Hey Paul I was reading one of your earlier posts where you said all your stills have a serial number on it . We have looked for one on the still we bought from you and can't find it . Where is it located. Tim
  10. Silk how thick would you estimate your slurry is would this set up work at 2.5 lbs per gallon . Tim
  11. There are food grade treatment options that are used extensively in the food processing industry any water treatment company should be able to help you .
  12. You might also look at a diesel or propane fired boiler
  13. What were seeing alot of is distilleries that started to small ,then realise they can't produce enough to keep the place in operation . Basically hobby sized production with commercial size bills . Lots of the bills dont depend on production some bills are jus set in stone no matter how big you . Now we're seeing some outfits step up to bat and get bigger equipment to continue producing good product in a volume that pays the bills . However were also seeing most of them just switching to gns and fuel alcohol from ethanol plants and flooding the country with shitty flavoured vodka . This does nothing but hurt the industry as people are not going to try many hand crafted products if the ones they try tastes like flavoured boat gas . In my opinion one needs to shoot for a minimum of mashing 300 gallons a day to keep in business for any length of time . But that's jus my shitty opinion lol Tim
  14. I agree with silk (as usual ). Yeast may not your problem but of course you should explain what is going on in better detail so it can be narrowed down . There is million things that can go wrong but only one thing that can go right lol. Rum ie cane sugar and brandy ie fruit both can be fermented quite well with lavellan ec118, it very forgiving . Tim
  15. Silk that is a great set up not counting the slurry pump what was total cost of ur set up .
  16. where are you from i might have an idea for you
