Production Distiller
We’re looking for someone who knows their way around a fermentation; someone who can see a quality product through from sourcing all the way to bottling; who has an intuitive understanding of the processes involved in and the chemistry behind brewing and/or distilling.Do you want to know what makes rum funky? Do you want to know why bourbon smells like vanilla? Do you sometimes dream of saccharification, optimal catalyzation, full attenuation, and dumping the trub? The work is hard and there is a lot of it, but at the end of the day you will have something to show for it: you will have created something truly unique. You’ll be judged by nothing but the quality of your product. If you have the knowledge and the skill, and if this level of freedom appeals to you, we’d like to work with you. Minimum of three years experience in a commercial distillery, brewery, or similar beverage production facility A formal distilling/brewing education or applicable professional experience preferred If you have the requisite brewing experience, we can help you take your craft to the next level as a distillerSkills and Responsibilities:
Has an aptitude with mechanical devices, tools, and equipment
Has an understanding of sanitation/cleaning practices for fermentation and storage
Able to efficiently direct the work of others towards production goals
Not intimated by product tracking and paperwork
High-level understanding of the process of fermentation
Practical knowledge of brewhouse functions
Materials sourcing and storage
Production forecasting and planning
Establishing efficient bottling and packaging procedures
Is able to represent GrandTen well in public and at events
Learns from mistakes and constantly improves
Ability to teach and guide other production team members
Basic knowledge of the chemistry involved in distillation
Strong organization and record keeping skills
Physical Demands:
Must be able to stand for the duration of a shift, as well as routinely lift up to 75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks regularly
Position requires use of hands to perform fine manipulation of glass and mechanical equipment
Identify inconsistencies in color, clarity, smell and taste
Safely handle mildly hazardous materials (primarily for cleaning) and responsibly operate complex machinery
