  1. Heard the rumors but didn't want to weigh in till the official story had been released. if there's anything I can do to help, please let me know. Steve
  2. it is heated by 3x 4500w electric heating elements submerged in an oil bath, oil is heat transfer medium to the inner mash kettle.
  3. you can request onsite one time ASME certification, same as is needed for Carl, Holstein and other German manufactured stills, they require pressure test report for the vessel and installation of ASME certified safety valves. 15psi is considered inherently safe, and in most districts steam piping and permits can be handled by a regular plumber. all our systems are tested to 60 psi and are rated for 45 psi steam. Having contacted ASME for certification, we were told there is no classification that we require certification under, merely registration. we are registered with TTB and FDA as manufacturers of distillation systems.
  4. yes the control system is super smooth and linear, there's not hunting for the right spot to get your still to perform the way you want, one of the nicest controllers I've had the pleasure to use. and Build is very clean.
  5. yes our 60 gallon units use Swedes controls, and our customers are very happy with them. Steve
  6. single malt will be high on our list once we get the distillery going here. but considering its meant to be more of a working showroom than production distillery our volumes will be low. but we could probably set a cask or two aside for blenders like yourself.
  7. Higher temperatures will drive the yeast harder, but it can also create some off flavors. you must be using a more temperature tolerant yeast to minimize the impact.
  8. drop me a line, I can do better. and if you want to visit the factory you can do as well. Steve
  9. I can help you out with that. drop me a line steven@artisanstilldesign.com and we can talk specifics of your requirements. Steve
  10. congrats, glad to see you're up and going
  11. this is a very difficult thing you're asking, its like the folks that demand ASME certification on a still. no such thing exists, as it is outside of the purview of ASME that being said, while I cannot provide UL or OHSA compliancy, all our equipment is certified Food safe under FDA regulations and import inspections. I can provide the FDA registration number of the factory upon request. Steve
  12. give me a call or drop me an email. if we don't have a standard design that works for you, we'll design something that does. Steve
  13. epoxy based floor sealers should do the job, as with any such product it will need to be touched up or redone in time with wear, but should last several years. but yes they do have some smell and off gassing as they cure, but once its done should last quite a while
  14. SH, looks like a pretty good deal for mash tuns in that size. you can mash right in the boiler of this still, but it is nice to have a dedicated tun so you're not tying up the still. we have a 120 gallon mash tun that uses the same electric bain marie setup as the 60, but with a paddle style agitator for super thick mashes, Steve
  15. our element system has a quick mount setup, for ease of setup and replacement. all elements are wired individually and run back to the control system for maximum flexablility. every component us UL and the assembly has been given a cursory approval by CSA (Canadian products safety Association) (controls system continues to evolve and improve, so we have to keep them informed of any changes of the High voltage side, as low voltage controls are considered inherently safe) but yes you are correct there is much more involved than just sticking some elements into the still, ithere is a right way and a wrong way to do it. My background is in the Mechanical engineering field, with much experience on 3 phase industrial design and troubleshooting.
  16. we've had aflood of requests for larger versions of this design, I guess there are a lot of places that electric works better than steam. I've been working on a variant of our 150 gallon hybrid still that uses a bain marie and electric heat. good news, I've come up with a design that will work quite nicely, only downside is you need 3 phase power. it really a modified version of our standard 150, with some changes to the steam jacketing, so it can operate as a Bain marie
  17. hey welcome, In a previous life I was a HVAC design specialist with an engineering firm, thats how I cut my teeth on heat transfer calcs. Now I'm designing stills.
  18. caps are all copper, but yes adding some copper mesh above the dephleg would certainly help. really the copper contact right where phase change is taking place is where your best results are to be had. the bubble caps will do that quite nicely.
  19. at the local liquor store I've seen hemp infused vodka sold in a bong shaped bottle. even had a hole predrilled
  20. Well many of you have been waiting with anticipation for the production run of our 30 gallon glass column still you saw at the ADI conference. good news, boilers have arrive and production has begun on the columns. we're just about ready to take your order. this new unit is a co-operative effort of Artisan Still Design and Paradise Lost Bev Co. kits as shown in the pictures below will sell for $5000. Includes: Boiler, Glass Column, Dephleg, product condenser, electric heat control system and element adapters. please direct order inquiries to lurch@paradiselostbevco.com Photos generously provided by Appalachian Mountain Spirits LLC, who owns our prototype unit.
  21. just finished designing a system with dual plated columns for a client. while using gravity feed from both columns back to the kettle can work, it is less than ideal. I would recommend a small reservoir at the base of the second column and a variable/continuous flow pump to cycle the distillate at the bottom of the second, back up to the top of the first column. this way it will act more like a single taller column. also you will only need to run a single reflux condenser at the top of the second column, rather than one for each column.
  22. I would expect all terms to be reciprocal, if they can get out with 60 days notice you should be able to as well. else wise I wouldn't sign
  23. looks like a sweet package for the right person. that would be my dream retirement setup, mind you I'm a West coast boy, so the other side of the continent would be preferable
