  1. I'm just north of austin in georgetown.. we are using OPA design for an architect and can't recommend them enough. They have done tons of breweries and did Still Austin. Check them out if you need architectural help. And welcome to the great nation state of Texas!
  2. Thatch, Totally agree and this part is somewhat in place. We have buy-in from the city because they actually "chose" our proposal (request for proposal to buy city properties; ours was the one selected by city council vote); we had a pre-pre-application meeting prior to submission of the RFP and had already gone through the zoning "directors determination" to add micro-distilling to downtown zoning. HOWEVER...The fire safety folks and the downtown historical commission must "bless off" as well, and they are not the same people. It would look bad for the city to pick our proposal and not be able to get it moved through the minutia of the other roadblocks, but as this board has taught me, having the answers before the questions are asked makes the road a lot easier to navigate. I feel like the architect with those answers will inspire more warm fuzzies with the fire safety people; although the local guy will likely do so with the historical commission folks. I guess I'm asking who I should be more afraid of.. my gut tells me it's the fire guy.
  3. @dhdunbar thanks so much for your response. I really appreciate all you do for this forum!!
  4. https://www.alcohollawadvisor.com/2017/05/texas-supreme-court-weighs-in-on-tied-house/ I think this the lawyer's concern.. apparently Texas means business about "tied house" conflicts.
  5. We recently had a preliminary meeting with a liquor lawyer. Word is that I won’t be able to get a DSP (tier 1) because my husband owns a few commercial buildings that have tenants who retail alcohol (tier 3)..a DIY arts and crafts place that sells beer and wine and 2 full bar restaurants. I’m totally crushed. ? Any work arounds? Thanks!
  6. Thanks so much @BouldinBourbon for the rec. I’ll tell her you sent me. I visited your tasting room a few weeks ago. Awesome place. Cheers!
  7. Hi! I’m ready to get going on my suburban downtown microdostillery and I’m looking for a lawyer familiar with Texas to help with all of the intellectual property, TM, and DSP stuff. I’ve heard that lawyers with distillery specific experience are super helpful. Any suggestions? I’m just North of Austin. Thanks!
  8. Hey! I’m not sure if there is but I would love to be part of one if you start it. My day job is medicine and we have a specialty specific, closed group that requires “vetting” so that only legitimate folks are allowed on and it is such a good resource. We call it the “brain trust”.
