  1. You are my new best friend...thanks!
  2. Read it and agree on some of the points. However, don't like some of the blanket statements...just sayin.
  3. That's the response I figured I would get. And with the cost of the 5000...I can't believe another company hasnt stepped in yet with an alternative.
  4. We will be in the suburbs of Chicago (although I currently live in DC). The type of still we will be using will be steam jacketed. We will have a relatively narrow, focussed, product offering to include whiskey, rum, and brandy. I would take some leave with my day job and would be willing to travel. Thanks.
  5. Well I just finished a class (paid) this weekend at a distillery and I have visited numerous others. Sorry, its the MBA in me that tells me to get all of the experience possible. In some of my visits to distilleries accross the country, many of them have entertained this offer just as long as I am not setting up in their back yard. Obviousluy no one ever offered this to you...
  6. Hello, I am looking for a week long internship at a distillery. Full discosure...we are opening our distillery in the Midwest, so I would imagine there would be no offers from that region. Please contact me if you would consider this. Thank you. Nathan
  7. What Digital devices are accurate enough for digital gauging? I know of the Anton Paar models, but are there cheaper options?
  8. I think the issue was the color and pattern. I know Black Maple Hill uses a black wax over their bottle. I would suggest contacting them to see if they have had issues.
  9. I know. I'm just looking for one data set.
  10. Hello, Does anyone have a simple breakdown of direct unit (case) costs for whisky? I understand that depending on type and place these numbers will be different. I have Bill Owens' book. Just looking for more detailed numbers. Thank you very much in advance!
  11. Scott, DC has middle of the road liquor laws, not the worst, not the best. The sales tax here is 1.50/gal, there is no sales of distelled spirits in grocery stores and liquor stors can't sell distilled spirits on sundays. Distilled spirits can only be imported into DC through someone with a valid wholesaler's license. I live here and know someone who is looking to get a wholesalers license. Actually, I recently looked into it too. There are a handfull of wholesalers here in the District. Let me know if you need any help out here.
  12. Go to the SBA for the format. For everything else you need to do your own market research in your own region. Plus the business plan must be your plan and not anyone elses. There are plenty of format go bys out there. Erase all of the data, start reasearching, go to the sba score office for help if you wish. They have cheap bp classes. If you try to cut corners on the bp you business will most likely fail. Good luck.
