  1. Pete, Correct, our valve is on the steam jacket and not on the pot
  2. Im heating 150 gallons of h2o in about an hour to hour and a half with 7 - 5,500 elements. Covered the outside of my tank with spray foam insulation, helped tremendously. I tried an adjustable element placed in the mash, it scourched the grain. Cooking corn inside your tank IMHO will not work unless you double wall it. Gravity feed will be a disaster (take a long time to drain) if cooked corn is in it. Hope this helped
  3. rtshfd I'm looking into ordering the 2 inch FIP. Has it worked out for you so far? Are you moving grain? Cheers,
  4. We use Square, so far so good. Easy setup and easy to use. The one thing we haven't done yet is figure out a way to link inventory with the shop and online sales.
  5. If you can find a local farmer it might help with the price and also the community tends to like that you are supporting them.
  6. Pog, Also we installed floor vents in our control room were we store spirits similar to the picture above from falling rock. As Glisade said, explosion proof motors.
  7. Our State fire code guy had us install exhaust vans above the still. Don't ask why since you already know that alcohol vapor is heavier than air. I haven't seen one installed in other distilleries but that doesn't make it right or wrong. I believe it depends on the inspector. Our fire and building inspector was fine with 15 psi relief valves. (jacketed still) You can get them at your local plumbing shops. I haven't seen one on a pot still, again with apparently packing columns to much or overfilling the pots can happen, then you will have a major issue. But i would get with your local and state fire code.
  8. Pete, John If you were to place a pressure relief valve on the column would you place it on the very bottom of the column just above the pot? If someone packed their column to much or a puking situation developed it would have a chance to rupture for sure. Our water supply for the deflag comes from one source, i can reroute it in different directions, mash, condenser ect..or shut off the deflag. Having the relief valve on the outlet side of the deflag allows for pressure to escape just in case i forget to open the other end to allow the water to go to the holding tank. It reminds and works 2 ways, reminds me if i don't have the valves open properly the relieve will open and the cooling water will spill on the floor, or allowing the water in the deflag to escape once the system is closed off.
  9. Pete, Nothing on the condenser, no need its open to the parrot. If there is a reason that you might think i need one im all ears. I just dont see why since the whole column would need to clog. See above for the deflag, i use valves for water adjustments and if one gets shut off it allows the vapor to escape.
  10. We use a 15psi relief valve, one on the jacket and one on the exit water for the deflag.
  11. What did you end up getting? I'm in the need for a small economical system. Just emailed him.
  12. I dont have a picture, but all I did was take a milk carton and built a wood insert. Cut holes to slide 1 1/2 PVC pipes, capped both ends, placed some foam in the bottom for protection. Works great, not the prettiest but very effective and it protect them.
  13. Good morning, I'm trying to find in the CFR what is required on the barrels after they are filled. Does the tax get paid while it ages or after the barrel is emptied for bottling? Thanks
