Started my own distillery about 8 months ago in Australia, and after all this time I am finally about to get my License to manufacture alcohol. About to purchase a 400L Bain Marie Pot still and a 400L Bain marie mash tun. At this point steam generation is not an option as I would like to be up and running as soon as possible. What are you guys thoughts on the bath medium. Water or Oil? I am looking for the most energy efficient option as electricity prices in Australia are some of the most expensive in the world. I have found a local supplier of Heat transfer oil. http://www.hi-tecoils.com.au/product/heat-transfer-oils-12-90/. Is this Oil suitable? I have seen that some guys use Mobil 46. I have come to understand that the number refers to the viscosity of the oil, where the higher number is more thick. The Supplier says they can only do 32 or 64. Would the lower number be more suitable? Thanks for your help!
Hi there, We are making whisky with a grain-in process. The mash is pumped from the mash tun to the fermenter with a centrifugal pump and stays there without agitation. After a week the grain is settled at the bottom and the husk is floating dry at the top. It is a hell of a job to pump this to the still after it is settled. I am thinking about using a lobe pump but I am not sure this will work with the solid at the bottom. The other solution would be to add an agitator to keep the mash homogeneity. Does anyone ever had this problem with a grain-in process? Did you try a lobe pump or other solution? Thanks!
black PE So I'm looking at this PE hose from Lowes... it's about $1million cheaper than the PE hose on TCW... so talk me out of buying it. How do I know if a hose has plasticizer in it? 304/316 isn't an option at the moment, but yes, that would be ideal. Its 14 & 61 rated (safe for food/chemical and underground plumbing) If there's a thread I should be reading, please point me in the right direction. Thanks,
Say you own a distillery and a warehouse down the street for storing finished/bottled product. When you transfer from your bonded distillery to your bonded warehouse would you need to submit an application for transfer in bond to the ttb? It would be leaving one bonded area, but then arriving at another bonded area owned by the same entity. Same question for barrels. When you barrel at the distillery and ship off-site for aging does any paper-work need to be submitted? Another way to look at it. Is a Transfer-In-Bond only required when transferring ownership from one entity to another?
