Reusing condenser water for mashing

Recommended Posts

I run city water to my deflegmator and condenser - starting from the tap, to the defleg and condenser to the drain.  What are thoughts on diverting the hot water off the defleg and condenser to my mash tuns to use the warm water in several days to make mash.  The water runs through food grade pvc braided tubing, stainless (defleg and condenser) steel and back into the pvc braided tubing.  Thoughts?

nothing wrong with cooling water. only question is about the pvc hose on the hot side of the condenser. check the ratings. if it's rated food grade at temp, then it should not pick-up any plasticizers which could taste bad, but likely not make it through the distillation. won't hurt the wash. save water...good idea.

We do exactly this! Works great. +1 on the suggestion above to use only PVC or pex rated for temp.
