Looking for a scale....

I called up one of my local scale distributors/companies and asked if they had any used scales that would fit my application.  I ended up with a pallet scale, delivered, installed and calibrated for less than $400.  Of course, I was around an agricultural area so that probably helped.

I looked at the optima scales site and i don't believe they have a scale whose load cells have a 1/10th lb resolution.  And that's a problem since the displays certainly can show tenths. I'm troubled by this.

We use the Ohaus defender 3000 and it has been great. https://us.ohaus.com/en-US/Products/Balances-Scales/Bench-Scales/Defender-3000-Stainless-Steel/D32XW300VX-AM

Just Noticed that you need 1000 pound capacity... This will only do 600.

Only because I had never seen one that did 600! This is perfect.   Thanks!

Most legal for trade floor scales rated for a 1000 pounds will only show a resolution of .5 as that is as accurate as they get. The same display is used for many different scales so even if  the display can show 1/10th it is unlikely that the 1000 pound rated scale can read those accurately.

Oh I found one from Mettler-Toledo. Suffice it to say it was out of our budget.  1 lb in 1000 is all you're going to get for under $1k. The shitty part is that they'll tell you the display is down to .1 lb -- is that just a random number generator??

https://www.prime-scales.com/product/304-stainless-steel-ntep-legal-trade-bench-scale-food-process-scale-recycling-scale/ is close to what you want. $1000, NTEP approved, does 0.2 lb up to 1000 lbs. Can also be had as 0.1 lb up to 500 lbs.

Another option from Prime: https://www.prime-scales.com/product/z-tcs-bench-scale-stainless-steel-indicator-platter/

This is NOT NTEP, but does 0.05 lb up to 800 lbs, and is only $500.

Does it need to be?

Only if you want/need your local weights and measures agency to certify it as correct for trade.  In Ohio they are only allowed to certify NTEP.
