coop
for vodka, do you filter with activated carbon before or after you dilute? We filter after dilution this way we take care of anything in the water also. Our water is very clean here in Colorado. The only thing in it is a little chlorine. We remove it first with an inline carbon filtering system. coop
Rich Morgan
for vodka, do you filter with activated carbon before or after you dilute? Always after dilution, to at least 40% ABV. We use steam activated, granulated coconut derrived carbon.

Guest sailorman9
for vodka, do you filter with activated carbon before or after you dilute? I know everyone says to dulute alcohol first, but I never do. I run it at high proof right after it comes out of the still. As the high proof alcohol flows down the column (40mm x 1.5M, packed with saturated Activated Stone Carbon) it heats up a little. This way I can tell exactly when the spirit will exit the filter. When the carbon is "used up", I stir it into boiling water and stir. I follow this up with baking in the oven at 550 degrees for 3 to 5 hours. Good ventilation is needed as the fumes are toxic and quickly give one a sore troat. Then the carbon is clean and ready to be reused. By use of this system carbon could theoretically be used hundreds of times.
