Is unrealistic for an "assistant"?

Not at all guys. I interviewed for this company. Fantastic company ran by top of the line professionals. The Master Distiller is expert level. The facility is a marvel. Really good benefits and compensation . I really can't say enough good things about Bently. If you do a simple google search for Bently Enterprise, you will quickly realize they don't do things halfway. Not just the run of the mill start up.They are looking for high level candidates. In my opinion you need to have 4 years working experience and knowledge of a distillery to move from Assistant Distiller to Distiller. No elevator to the top!

To me the "Essential function and Responsibilities" section is asking for a lot at the assistant level. The education and experience seems wanted seems fine but might be difficult to find given how young/small the industry is; though they are not limiting it to degrees/experience in distilling. In the wine industry, assistant winemakers would easily have that level of education and experience, would usually be educated in winemaking (BS), and some would have a master's degree. Of course wine is a bigger industry in terms of numbers of companies with a longer recent history.

Undisclosed, but most assistant positions in brewing are near minimum wage.

And that's minimum wage calculated out to salary.  It's more common than not to offer 2x miniumum wage which is about $33k a year but they're salaried and classified as exempt employees. It's a tough gig.

These guys are very well financed, and aren't afraid to use their money. The family owns a lot of farm land in the area, and are able to grow their own grains, and i believe they also planned on having a malting floor as well. They are located in a very cool old flour mill they've been building out for years now, and have some beautiful equipment. Wouldn't be surprised if the "assistant" position payed very well, and had some nice perks. I know they've been sending their other distillers all around the world. I'd apply if I wasn't already neck deep in another start up. Minden is a nice spot too. Pretty quiet, but close to Reno and Tahoe.

Thank you to both both Adam and Gregory for what you have mentioned about Bently, you are correct. Bently is a company that never falters on our standard of high-quality, and that includes our employees as well. We are in various industries and we do offer a competitive salary for all positions which are dependent on both the cost of living within the area, as well as, as the specific job duties. We ensure that there is a competitive salary and benefit package in order to continue to motivate and retain our employees. For those specific individuals that are truly interested, but would like to ask about the salary, you are able to message me directly and I can give you more information, but I will not disclose that over the forum. Along with maintaining a standard of high quality, another value the Company has is growing our employees. So although this position will start off as an Assistant Distiller, we will work with the individual to get to the level of expertise they are looking for.

Thank you all!
