I run a small malt house in Reno, Nevada USA. I have a distiller that wants to yield 10, 60gallon barrels of single malt, how much grain should I malt to mash and ferment to get to this quantity. Up to this past week I have malted for local breweries and home brewers. This is my first introduction to the world of distilling. What parameters/specs do you like to see in your malt? Greetings from Reno, Nevada USA. I run a small malthouse in Reno, Rebelmalting.com, We lease 15acres of barley growing space, have an extra 1000 acres if demand increases. Currently malt for two local breweries and homebrewers. Built the Steep/Germination/Kiln unit myself, can malt any type of grain. It has been a wonderful adventure trying out new grains to process. Started my brewing career at the age of 17 in 1988 at Crown City Brewing in Pasadena California, then spent 10 great years in Colorado with New Belgium Brewing Co. My family started a brewery in Adelanto, California (Jergensen Brewing Co.) this is where I built the malting unit to experiment with different grains. I live near the Truckee river and love to fish and race off-road trucks in the Best in the Desert and SCORE race series.
