  4. Am getting my distillery started and have been a little confused on securing tanks. Specifically, I plan on having some 200 or 300L tanks with lids for intermediate storage (hold product after distillation unit lit gets carbon filtered) and also tanks for proofing. As I understand 19.192, I need to have the capability of securing the tanks but I don't actually have to do it. But what type of mechanism should/could be used for securing a tank with a lid? Do I need to put a locking hasp on the lid and tank sidewall? Some type of barrel drum ring I somehow attach? Am I overthinking? Any advice is appreciated. § 19.192 Security. (a) General. The proprietor of a distilled spirits plant must provide adequate security measures at the plant in order to protect the revenue. (b) Buildings. The buildings, rooms, and partitions must be constructed of substantial materials. Doors, windows, or any other openings to the building must be secured or fastened during times when distilled spirits plant operations are not being conducted. (c) Outdoor tanks. Outdoor tanks containing spirits, denatured spirits, or wine must be individually locked or locked within an enclosure when they are not in use. (d) Indoor tanks. Indoor tanks containing spirits, denatured spirits, or wines, or the rooms or buildings in which such tanks are housed, must be equipped so that they may be secured.
  5. Thanks for all the info. I don't really have a problem with the reg's, just want to make sure I'm doing it right. I guess before putting up the wall I'll be sure to get buy-in from our local TTB rep. Don't want to have to go back and change it after the fact.
  6. We'll be starting up just west of Austin, on the way to Dripping Springs.. Looking forward to getting this thing going!
  7. Long time listener, first time caller. Just submitted paperwork for a new DSP in the Texas Hill Country region. Can't wait to get started!
  8. Working through our DSP permit and came across a decision point that I wanted opinions on. Our retail area is in the same physical building as our bonded and general premises areas. To separate the retail area from bonded and general premises areas I was thinking of putting up an 8ft wall but no ceiling, since the building itself has a 14ft ceiling and I don't want to go that high (so theoretically an enterprising spirit thief could climb the wall and get into the bonded and general premises areas via the retail area). Both retail and bonded premises will have separate outside access. Question is whether a wall is sufficient or if we need to add ceiling as well?
