Position Description Head Distiller/Director of Production Ugly Dog Distillery, Chelsea Michigan Ugly Dog Distillery one of the oldest Craft Distillery in Michigan, is seeking an experienced Head Distiller/Director of Production to join team. We are committed to producing award winning premium craft distilled spirits to our consumers. We strive to present our guests with a genuine “craft” experience by surpassing industry standards for quality while providing value with total customer satisfaction in mind. As a qualified candidate, you should have experience in all phases of distillation and production processes within the Craft distilling industry. We are looking for someone with 3-5 years’ experience creating various spirits and RTD’s. You must be experienced in distillery and warehouse operations in conjunction with overseeing a small team while performing multiple tasks within the production facility. The Head Distiller must show attention to detail while being responsible for all of the daily distillery operations including distilling, bottling, packaging, proofing, driving a forklift, equipment maintenance and cleaning. Additionally, our Head Distiller will also be responsible for warehouse and distillery related administrative activities including record keeping, government reporting, safety policies, inventory management, production scheduling, staff management and Quality Applicants must be well organized, computer savvy, professional, self-motivated, self-confident, possess and act with high integrity. Previous distillery experience and or education is a must Able to work with and thrive within a small team environment Decisive and able to lead and teach staff Strong attention to detail Great attitude with the ability to bounce back from failures A creative mind who wants to expand and redefine spirits Understanding of mechanical equipment in distillery environment Strong technical experience in distillation, proofing, blending and bottling operations · Assisting CEO in new product formulation and development · Equipment maintenance and upkeep; ensure cleanliness in production areas and through the distillery complex · Receiving orders and stocking and refilling supplies and materials · Logging and record keeping to ensure product consistency and TTB compliance · Providing ongoing process optimization and production efficiency feedback · Representing the distillery to the public through tours and tastings · Maintaining strict oversight of quality controls and product excellence · Occasional facilities management duties (light repairs, maintenance, and upkeep) to support the smooth running of the physical plant Desired Traits and Attributes · Commitment to quality and desire to create a truly great product · Commitment to innovation and ongoing product and process improvement; relentless curiosity and desire for ongoing education and professional development · Commitment to collaboration in a team environment · Ability to problem-solve and improvise · Preferred experience in a related field, such as brewing, microbiology, food science, fermentation or chemistry Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. This is a physical job. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times. Ability to work occasional off-hours to accommodate special events.
