  1. Thanks SlickFloss, reaching you by PM.
  2. MGP had been supplying 99/1 Corn/Malt light whiskey distilled to 189.5 proof, and proofed down below 140 for transport in totes or new filled used barrels. We use this for blending. We are in search of another economical bulk spirits supplier that can fill our needs. We need two totes ASAP and again every few months. Our requirements are that the flavor be quite neutral with the sweetness of the corn evident. Can anyone supply or refer me to a qualified supplier?
  3. Thanks dhdunbar for the explanation. I am still a little confused. Are you telling us that barrels are not considered tanks or conveyances, and therefore angel's share, and the absorption into the wood do not count in the 1.5% 19.462 test? Therefore just report the losses on our monthly report when we dump the barrels?
  4. I can't see where barrel storage losses are exempted from the 1.5% per quarter maximum storage losses. This is timely for us because we dumped barrels we bought in bond this month, and experienced a 6% loss. Do we need to file a claim for remission of tax, or are barrels exempted somewhere? 27 cfr 19.462:
  5. Adam, did you get a reply from the TTB for the reporting of normal losses from barrel storage? We are about to face the same question.
  6. We are building out a very small craft and R&D spirits DSP. We have no inside tanks, outside tanks and have no intention of storing portable tanks such as totes. We will have a small amount of barrel storage, retail packaging, and some spirits in small process containers not considered portable tanks (glass carboys for example). CFR 19.192(e) makes it appear we may not have a need for TTB approved padlocks: Question 1: Does anyone have experience with TTB visiting or auditing a site that had nothing but barrel storage, or retail storage and gotten any grief about padlocks? Secondly, If we do decide that we are subject to paragraph (f), we would prefer not to padlock from the outside because of the safety issue of possibly locking someone in. Plus, our front door is in a mixed retail/light industrial center, and an external padlock would seem out of place. Our preference would be a secure mortise lock for the door, with a no-key-needed knob on the inside for emergencies. We have the door alarmed. Question 2: Has anyone had experience in getting a mortise lock approved by the TTB, as 27 CFR 19.192(f)(2) provides?
