We've had this build-up on our mash tun before. Try a stronger PBW solution or another brand of Alkaline cleaner, I used Cir-q-late from Birko. We would soak at a very high temp and it would eventually come off.
Has anyone tried finishing whiskey in a sour beer barrel? I've scoured the internet and haven't heard of someone doing this. I'm just interested in whether the flavor profile is a good complement.
No such thing. Scotch can only be produced in Scotland, Bourbon:U.S. Depending on the blending ratios you would be creating either a blended whiskey, or a blended bourbon whiskey, from my understanding of the standards of identity.
