  1. Hello all you Canadian distillers, I've been researching bottles in the process of putting things together to start a distillery and I am having quite a time finding bottle selection within Canada. Do any of you buy from suppliers in Canada or do you go straight to dealing with China or USA? Any Canadian suppliers that you have found good to deal with? I'm not sure how much of a pain it is to order cross-border with all the unknowns for cost and shipping time. Thanks for your time.
  2. Hey James, great to see you on here. I just spent a fun week learning about the distilling business with you in December. I'm sure over the next number of months I may come across a thing or two that I'll end up having to get some advice on while I embark on this adventure, so its great that, within reason, you've got some time to discuss things. Hope you and the crew had a great Christmas and New Years. Cheers! Blair
  3. There has been a lot of very good advice and discussion to consider, thanks everyone for taking the time to reply.
  4. Hi all, I’m new here. Im a long time reader of the forums and I’ve become obsessed with making all sorts of alcohol. I’m hoping I can own and run a distillery some day and I’m thankful for this online community with so much collective knowledge and experience.
  5. After a lot of reading, and only very little experience, it would be interesting to know distillers opinions on plated column vs packed column for distilling different spirits. For example, I just spent some time in a craft distillery where they successfully only use a packed column with dephlegmator and direct electric heat to produce neutral spirits and also whiskey. By controlling temperatures of cooling water and adjusting the amount of reflux for the product they intend to make, it seems they accomplish their goals just fine. Odin from iStill also seems to have come to the conclusion after years of development, and is his preference, to use a packed column to produce all kinds of spirits. He has other traditional column options for people who enjoy or are more comfortable with the traditional process. Of course plated columns with sight glasses look beautiful, but on a budget, is a packed column more practical? What is your experience?
  6. Hello Everyone, This is my first post on here but I have been reading the forums for quite some time. I’m just in the beginning process of finding out if my dream of having a distillery is possible, but there are a few things that I’m not sure about. This seems like a supportive community on here and I’m hoping those of you with some experience could give some advice. In my situation, as a farm based distillery in bc Canada it’s looking like an electric still is the best way to start. With my 200amp electrical service, is it reasonable to run an electric 500-1000 litre still?
