The program provides educational enrichment opportunities for students through exposure to, and involvement in, an array of diverse experiences, including commercial equipment training, internships, site visits, workshops, conferences, community collaborations, and guest speaker events. The Assistant Director-Lead Distiller should be familiar with, or able to become familiar within three months, relevant federal and state regulations, college policy, and available funding options. This position requires a flexible work schedule, including availability for evenings and weekends. Many activities are performed independently and with minimal supervision. The Assistant Director-Lead Distiller may be assigned responsibility for decisions in the absence of the Dean of Workforce Education & Food and Beverage Arts in matters where procedures and policies are not well known or established. What You'll Do Technical Production Coordination The Assistant Director-Lead Distiller assists the faculty lead with student outreach and communication and will assist in instructional program recruitment efforts Under the direction of the Dean and in consultation with facilities management and staff, helps coordinate course-work and annual schedules to ensure that facilities and supplies are available for program coursework Assists with quality testing, production, packaging operations for Percival Creek commercial products Under the direction of the Dean and collaboration with the Assistant Director-Lead Brewer, coordinates scheduled production runs for all Percival Creek Brands Works with the Business and Distribution Director to maintain regulatory compliance related to the Craft Brewing and Distilling Program and Percival Creek LLCs with local agencies including LCB, DOH, DOR, and with the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges Assists the Business and Distribution Director in hosting events that support the industry needs for education Tracks Brewing and Distilling equipment maintenance in support of instruction and commercial production. Facilitates routine maintenance and repairs as appropriate Instructional Support and Lab Coordination Supervises safe student activity in the laboratories and the production floor Works directly with faculty to prepare, modify and develop instructional resources to support hands-on laboratory style curriculum Integrates industry standards into instructional environments and supports student learning in classroom and lab settings Assists the Craft Brewing and Distilling team in providing off-site industry tours for students learning based on course curriculum needs and schedules Assists the dean with student outreach and communication and will collaborate in recruitment efforts with units of the college Oversight and Coordination of Student Production Efforts Manages production schedule and student work to achieve commercial and instructional production goals Supervises student production to assure safety, quality, and adherence to facility processes and standards Assists and directs technician preparation and breakdown of production floor sessions which includes managing inventory related to beverage production and instruction, and placing orders to replenish stock, materials, and supplies as needed Qualifications You Possess Bachelor’s degree and experience working in distilling beverage industry. Five years of experience in the industry may be in place of a bachelor’s degree Experience in production, process engineering, and/or packaging Actively contributes to a work environment that embraces diversity and inclusion and uses numerous strategies to enhance the attainment of organizational goals Demonstrated experience with the business, science, history, process, or culture of food and beverage fermentation. Excellent communication skills, the ability to work well with others, and function as a team member Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations, solving problems and making decisions Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks, and accommodate numerous interruptions Use of computers and software applications, specifically MS Office suite: Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. What You'll Do Responsibilities and duties of the Director of Business and Distribution include, but are not limited to, the following: Responsible for financial management of Percival Creek Brewing, Distilling, and Cider; primary point of contact for budgetary needs within facility/program. Maintains and monitors facility and program budgets; creates and reviews appropriate financial statements, activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement; provides budget summaries to assist with long-term planning. Responsible for maintaining financial and tax documents to comply with all local, state and federal government requirements. Responsible for sales and marketing of Percival Creek brands. Works closely with Director of Craft Brewing and Distilling to formulate productions protocols for all Percival Creek brands. Develops and implements the communication and marketing strategies across all Percival Creek product lines. Negotiates and maintains distribution, materials, and ingredient procurement contracts for the facility. Works with Craft Brewing and Distilling team and product distributers for timely and effective product distribution; sets up and oversees tracking systems for purchases of materials and equipment, and sale of products. Represents SPSCC and Percival Creek at trade associations, guild meetings and speaking engagements. Serves as the liaison between the Craft Brewing and Distilling program and the SPSCC Foundation. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications You Possess Minimum Qualifications: 1-2 years minimum of proven success in the craft brewing and distilling industry and wholesale distribution management or associates degree in craft brewing, distilling, and cider making. A good understanding of industry leading analytic tools (i.e. RI, Nielsen, VIP, or others). Understanding of pricing and general operations. Passion for the industry, a genuine sense of pride in all that you do, and a strong work ethic. Strong knowledge of the craft brewing and distilling industry. Highly motivated and a self-starter. Willingness to travel approximately 30% of the year. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work alone and within a team environment. Strong communication skills Intermediate computer competence in Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook. Ability to complete administrative requirements on time. Must have a clean driving record as Motor Vehicle Record checks will be conducted on candidates. Conflict Management & Engagement -- The ability to engage cultural conflicts that occur between individuals and groups. Flexibility -- The ability to respond and adapt to new and changing situations. Preferred Qualifications: At least 2 years of proven success in the craft brewing and distilling industry and wholesale distribution management. A thorough understanding of the three-tiered system. Brilliant knowledge of the college history, and innovative craft, brewing, and distilling program. Strong aptitude or experience in selling craft brewing, distilling, and cider making offerings and distribution of products.
