For maintaining a constant temperature, I use a Honeywell T775M2006 controller with a Danfoss. Danfoss are not the cheapest to buy. I now need a controller that has a proportional output that I can program to do a fixed ramp. Anyone know of a reasonably priced controller that you can do ramps on?

My experience with Barrel Mill as well, great to work with.

I have had this happen once or twice when I didn't turn on the condenser cooling water.

I was looking at their 1000L setup with a copper column. Price seems really good but was wondering if anyone that is running one can comment on how well they work. Thanks

I started a quarterly order with them in January. I get 12 barrels each quarter, 30 gallons each. I am in CO so I need to fill in about 2 months otherwise I rehydrate with water. So far, my quality has been great, really happy with them.

Looking for suggestions on separating grain after mashing
GeekSpirits replied to GeekSpirits's topic in Technique
I didn't get good pictures, but I used the screen this weekend on the bourbon and it worked good. I actually didn't even need to use the pump. I just filled the tank with the front open and the used my shovel to move the grain around and let the liquid drain off. I then scooped it into barrels. -

I did my second run on single malt today and I find I only need to pump not the tank with the screen and let it drain from gravity. I move the grain/liquid mixture a little with a shovel to keep it draining but worked out fine. -

If it every collapses I will post a picture of it. First use had no problems and the screen didn't deform at all and I had the pump pulling pretty negative but no pressure gauge so no idea how much pressure. I will be using it for three more batches this next weekend. -

I will definitely do a small amount the first round so I have less mess to clean up if it doesn't got well. I found with the malted barley, I have to reverse the pump and then reverse it back a few time to complete pull off all the liquid. I am not worried about the screen collapsing because of the construction. Hendrick Manufacturing did a really nice job on the construction. I do think a larger pump and shorter hoses could help. You are 100% correct on the retina tanks being thin so definitely need to keep and eye on it. -

Yes, it is a Latina 2000liter tank. We use a small plastic snow shovel. -

First run today with the single malt, here is how it came out. Grain was pretty dry and easy to shovel out. Basically I distilled on grain and the pumped into this tank and then pumped off the liquid. There was a little learning on how to fulling drain off the liquid but it worked out pretty well. -

I got the screen today. I attached photos of it in the crate and in the tank. It is pretty heavy but manageable. Fits in the tank pretty well, not too tight. -

I believe the spacing is 0.03 inches. Fairly fine but that is the typical size they make. It is made in three sections so it can fit through the opening in the tank and just sits on the bottom of the tank. I should have it this month. I want to try it out on my single malt before moving to my bourbon. -

Just a quick update on my side. I purchased a custom lauter screen that will sit in the bottom of my tank. It will let me lauter before fermenting or after fermenting but before distilling. I will let folks know how it works out and post some pictures. -
I am getting ready to disassemble and deep clean my still. One question I have is what would be the best way to clean my condenser. It doesn't disassemble so I can only fill will a liquid and let it sit for a while before rinsing so what is good to add to water to clean the surface without scrubbing or wiping the surface. The condenser is stainless steel. I have used citric acid to clean (so so) and PBW (okay). Is there anything better?

I have one of the MiniMax bottle washers and overall, it has worked pretty well for me. I wish the stainless steel tank was bolted to the frame rather than weld it to allow easy removal and cleaning or add a drain plug.

5/10/15/30/53 gal NEW A/O charred barrels for sale

Just ordered six. Really glad to be able to get them. -
I have been making a single malt in a mash tank. I ferment on grain and found the grain all flowed to the top during fermentation which pretty much separated it out. Now that I do a finer mill (to get better conversion, went from 13.3 to 16.8), the grain has become hard to separate out easily before I distill. Any low cost suggestions? I ferment in a Letina 2000 liter White Wine Fermenters with Cooling Jackets—Closed Top—Conical Bottom tank and thought about putting in a false bottom to allow the grain to collect on the top which can be scooped out for the pigs. People think this would work? Other suggestions?

I would like to see the math behind their claims.

I dump mine without pre-heating. Takes about 30 minutes for 55 gallons

I am trying to track down an affordable conveyer belt set up for my manual bottling setup. I basically need three conveyor belts that are in the 24inch to 36 inch by 6ft to 9ft range with a motor with easy to run on off. Anyone know a good source?
