  1. thanks for the advice jonathan. i've visited and toured new york distilling company and drank at the shanty before. it was definitely a cool experience. i'll send them an email asking whether i can intern there.
  2. i'll check out the home distiller website
  3. i'm in NYC, and i just looked up chillin' and distillin' at delaware phoenix distillery. $500 is pretty steep though, considering lodging and meals aren't included. it looks like a lot of fun though, and i'm sure the people you get the opportunity to meet are really cool.
  4. thanks mike. i noticed that you're from new york state as well. do you know of any places in the state that offer some sort of formal training in a classroom setting or any distillers that apprentice would-be distillers?
  5. what is the best way to learn how to distill your favorite alcohols? is there a specialized school? do you need to find a mentor? learn by first working at an operating distillery? reading up on distillation? experimenting in your own backyard?
  6. hi everybody, i'm thinking about starting a farm distillery in new york state. when are you required to pay excise tax to the federal and state governments? is it as soon as your spirit is produced or sold? and in the case of aged spirits (whiskey) when is excise tax payable (after being sold, after finishing in the barrel, or right off of the still)? any advice would be much appreciated. -feeroz

  8. hi pressure9pa, have you been able to access any good reading material on distillery start ups or whiskey production? i found this online, http://www.mhtg.org/system/uploads/attachment/2012/craftbook.pdf. i haven't finished reading it yet, but so far it doesn't have much information about actually starting up a distillery.
  9. hi everybody, i'm from nj and new to the forum. looking forward to learning about brewing and distilling. so far, i've only visited a few operational distilleries in new york state. -feeroz
