  1. excellent topic. we've been trying to determine the added value of this shows..seems like every month a new one comes out. I'd definitely second the notion of having adequate marketing resources for new distributions. anybody else have input on this? I've felt like we spend enough time keeping paperwork and current demand in order..
  2. I'm confused as well. Are you making a Brandy or a NGS? if NGS/GNS I wouldn't bother barrel aging. I have no personal expirience with brandy, but IMO I would only buy a used barrel if I was specifically looking for that flavor or aroma. We buy used bourbon barrels on the reg and have had no problems. We'll begin with wine barrels later this year. That being said, since you don't have your DSP yet I wouldn't bother buying barrels. There are plenty other things to spend time and money on. Also, NC, VA, TN, and KY all have numerous wineries so don't worry if this fellow won't have any for a while. PS: it'll be cheaper to drive a truck and trailer to pick up these barrels than ship it. I tried a brokerage in Danville, KY - wanted $60 to ship less than 80 miles. Also, you can by barrels that are broken down on ebay and reassymble them. I only mention because you seem to want to tear the barrels down anyway.
  3. ^ I think it's voice activated - if you slurr you're drunk (jk btw)
  4. Thank you to all. Apparently ADI forum isn't notifying me of responses... Anyway, I can second Scott - TTB told me the exact same thing. They did note that a manufacturer has to notify the state before a still is removed from the mfc facility. They neglected to say who I would be notifying, but I assume TTB can direct me! Thanks again and sorry for the delay.
  5. To my understanding you have to register your still during your DSP application correct? If you have made the still yourself and thus have no barcode or seriel number, how do you register it?
  6. I know this is a little old, but any idea how you register a still that you've made?
  7. I think it depends wether you ask for permission before applying for label approval as opposed to just applying and hope they aren't motivated to dig deeper. I completely agree that we need to stick together as micro/craft/botique distilleries. I often remind visitors just how large the chasm is between us and the big boys. KY has over 3 million barrels of whiskey in storage and the craft trail represents (on a very generous note) a woping 1% of that. That being said, I've found a cooperage here in KY that is willing to make barrels/casks out of pretty much whatever wood we want. Still working on MOQ/pricing. PM if you want details.
