  1. Try an open top IBC with a screen over the top. That should work.
  2. Thinking about getting your sake on Brad? alex
  3. I would bet they have a 60Hz model. Have you contacted them yet? mtn
  4. You could try to make this work until your DSP comes through: §19.32 Experimental distilled spirits plants. (a) General. The appropriate TTB officer may authorize the establishment and operation of experimental plants for specific and limited periods of time solely for experimentation in, or development of: (1) Sources of materials from which spirits may be produced; (2) Processes by which spirits may be produced or refined; or (3) Industrial uses of spirits. ( Waiver. The appropriate TTB officer may waive any provision of 26 U.S.C. chapter 51 (other than 26 U.S.C. 5312) and of this part (other than §19.33) to the extent necessary to effectuate the purposes of 26 U.S.C. 5312( as outlined in paragraph (a) of this section. However, TTB will not waive the payment of any tax on spirits removed from an experimental plant. (26 U.S.C. 5312) §19.33 Application to establish experimental plants. (a) Application requirements. Any person who wishes to establish an experimental plant for the purposes specified in §19.32 must submit a written application to the appropriate TTB officer and obtain approval of the proposed experimental plant. The application must: (1) State the nature, extent, and purpose of the operations to be conducted; (2) Describe the operations and equipment; (3) Describe the location of the plant (including the proximity to other premises or operations subject to the provisions of 26 U.S.C. chapter 51); and (4) Describe the security measures to be provided. ( Bond. The applicant must file a bond with the application in such form and penal sum as required by the appropriate TTB officer. © Approval of application. Before approving the application, the appropriate TTB officer may require that the applicant submit additional information if necessary. TTB will not approve the application and permit operations until the plant conforms to the specifications stated in the application and the applicant complies with provisions of 26 U.S.C. chapter 51 and with any provisions in this part that are not specifically waived. (26 U.S.C. 5312) Smiley faces are not my doing.
  5. Fermentations that I have done seem to agitate themselves.
  6. You don't want to be adding O2 to your mash after it's started to ferment. How about using a little pump to circulate? mtn
  7. Great suggestions guys. I started with The Complete Distiller many years ago, super helpful for getting the gist of things. I might as well order the CFR and get cozy with it too. Whiskey - T,P & M has been suggested before, looks like that will get ordered. Anyone else have suggestions? mtn
  8. Is anyone interested in sharing the reference texts/resources that have helped you along the way? What book do you keep turning to when you feel stumped? What book was recommended to you by a friend/colleague/mentor that you can't seem to live without as a distiller/brewer? If you could travel back to when you first began fermenting/distilling, what reference texts would you choose to give to your younger self? mtn
  9. Hi all. Just wondering, now that the dust has settled a bit, how smaller dsp's are making out with the privatization laws. Pro's/con's from your viewpoint? Is the new normal not as good/bad as you had feared? I'm in Oregon and there is talk here of going a similar route, although supposedly learning from WA's mistakes.
  10. Hey 1A, please post your contact here so we all may benefit.
  11. Between missing threads and those multi-posts caused by that weird post error, this is about the buggiest forum software i've ever come across. Maybe they are in the process of upgrading? What other threads are missing seventhson? mtn
  12. Thanks for looking into it Guy. I'll give you a couple of days to see if you can pull them from your backup, if not, I just might start them back up again.
  13. Hello and sorry if this isn't a good place to post this, but two threads that I was involved in seem to have disappeared or i've been locked out. One that I found here already: Daily Records was interesting and somewhat active. Another that I started myself: SS IBC as jacketed boiler has also disappeared. I already sent a msg through the Contact Us page but received no response. Any chance someone can find out what happened? Thanks in advance. mtn
  14. Would you mind sharing the brand and model of your 5ltr/gal setup?
  15. ASD, couldn't get a pm through, so here you go. I'm wondering what you would be able to make a 350 gallon bain marie for? Setup for either immersion heat or steam, which ever is easier/most efficient. I'm currently thinking of going with a SS jacketed IBC as boiler and stilldragon or custom column for whiskey/vodka/gin etc... I've been in email contact with your rep Brian Morton, but he's either really busy, or just not great at answering emails. thanks Mtn
