I am writing a business plan and am now looking at the market research part nationally. I was wondering if anyone has purchased a market research report from reportlinker.com

Cost is $495.00, Currently, I am setting up a market research study locally but hard to do nationally.

Just curious as to its legitimacy.

The summary states:

This databook provides key data and information on the spirits market. This report is a comprehensive resource for market, category and segment level data including value, volume, distribution share and company & brand share. This report also provides expenditure and consumption data for the historic and forecast periods up to 2014.

*Contains information on eight categories; whisk(e)y, gin & genever, liqueurs, vodka, tequila & mezcal, rum, specialty spirits and brandy.

*Market, category and segment level information on value, volume, and expenditure & consumption, with historic (2004-09) and

forecast (2010-14) data

*Category level company and brand share as well as distribution share information for 2008 and 2009

*Review of the top two companies within the spirits market, including company overview, key facts and business description

Highlights

The market for spirits has increased at a compound annual growth rate of 1.9% between 2004 and 2009.

The whisk(e)y category led the spirits market, accounting for a share of 35.4%.

Leading players in spirits market include Diageo plc, Pernod Ricard and Bacardi Limited.

Reasons to Purchase

*Develop business strategies by understanding the quantitative trends within the spirits market.

*Design effective marketing and sales strategies by identifying key market categories and segments.

*Identify key players within the market to plan lucrative M&A, partnerships and agreements.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Terry

I am aware of several companies that compile and report research about the drinks business and which I know are widely patronized in the industry. Reportlinker.com is not one of them.

My recommendations are based on what I have seen over the years working in the beverage alcohol industry. Whether or not they are suitable for your particular needs I have no way of knowing.

Most of them are associated with trade publications or are themselves trade organizations, such as the Distilled Spirits Council (DISCUS) and the Kentucky Distillers Association.

Beverage Information Group publishes Cheers and other beverage trade mags.

The other one is M. Shanken Communications, which publishes Impact and Market Watch, and now owns Malt Advocate, but they don't have much web presence.

Just-Drinks.com is the one I've suggested before.

Typically they sell reports but you can also get much of the research by subscribing to the publications.

ADI members certainly are entitled to suggest that ADI should commission some relevant industry reasearch itself.

Ahhh... just as I posted, seems Chuck beat me to it.

B.I.G. publishes Cheers and Beverage Dynamics, as well as research (2010 Liquor Handbook, expensive reports per category [i.e. Gin, Vodka, North American Whiskey...], etc.).
