Kyiv today was attacked by Kinzhal missiles. Mikhail Shamanov, speaker of the KGVA, said this on the air of Kyiv 24.

"Kyiv was attacked by aeroballistic missiles of the Kinzhal type. We must thank our air defense forces for the downed missiles. All information about the number will be given later by the air force," Shamanov said.

Also on the air was the inclusion of a hit on the territory of the existing children's hospital in the Obolonsky district. 5 fragments of different sizes fell here.

“When there were explosions, the children (patients) with their parents were in the bomb shelter of the hospital. It was quite loud today. About 4-5 explosions, after the explosions, after about a minute and a half, debris began to fall throughout the hospital. There were not many of them. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Neither the people, nor our property, nor the building," said Toto Zantaraya, Deputy Director of the Children's Hospital.

Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder said that the situation on the front in Ukraine is far from ideal, but our Armed Forces performed a miracle, pushing the Russian invaders to defensive positions.

At the briefing, he said that in the United States from the very beginning it was assumed that the counteroffensive would be a difficult battle, regardless of when it began. Ryder said the US will continue to work with Ukrainian forces to provide them with the capabilities they need to fight, including training.

“Let’s take a step back and admit that this is far from an ideal situation. No one in their right mind would ever want Russia to invade Ukraine, but they did. And the Ukrainians, against all odds, were able to push the Russians into a defensive position that in itself is a miracle, given the state of the Ukrainian army during the Russian invasion," the speaker stressed.

He added that although the situation on the battlefield is far from ideal, even under such conditions, the Defense Forces were able to realize opportunities and achieve results.

War in Ukraine - latest news from the front

As reported in the morning address, over the past day, Russian troops tried to advance in the Kupyansk and Bakhmut directions, but were defeated. In total, 34 combat clashes took place on August 10.

The Office of the President spoke about the consequences and victims of a massive nighttime missile attack by Russian occupiers in Ukraine.

The courtyard of a kindergarten in Lviv and residential buildings, the center of Lutsk and an enterprise, as well as settlements in Cherkasy, Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporizhia and Donetsk regions fell under enemy attack, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Oleksiy Kuleba said.

In particular, in Volyn, as a result of a missile strike, three employees of the enterprise were killed, and three more were injured. Now the liquidation of the consequences of the attack continues there.

In Lvov, fragments of rockets fell on residential high-rise buildings, people were injured and houses around were damaged. In addition, 10 houses and vehicles were damaged in two villages near Lviv. It is known about 10 victims.

In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, fragments of a rocket fell on a private house in the Kolomyia region, as a result of which two outbuildings nearby were also damaged.

In addition, in Dnipro, as a result of arrivals at one of the enterprises, two of its employees were injured. The sports complex, where children work out daily, was also damaged.

In the Cherkasy region, the city of Smela fell under the sight of the Russian invaders. There, among the affected objects, in particular, is the territory of a medical institution. Water and heat supply networks have also been damaged, so part of the city is now without water.

Kuleba noted that now the heads of the regional police departments are working in the regions and all the necessary services are located.

"The attempts of the Russians every day and every night to sow panic and terror by shelling our peaceful communities is only confirmation of the inhuman nature of the occupiers. We see that the enemy is interested in kindergartens, hospitals and high-rise buildings. Therefore, we do not ignore the air raid alarms," the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office urged.

He stressed that they are trying to intimidate Ukrainians, but they are even more resistant.

"And God created Franky": Ukrainian guardsmen showed a miracle helper at the front

Ukrainian National Guardsmen told the story of the military machine that helped save hundreds of lives. She was nicknamed Frankenstein.

The website of the National Guard of Ukraine reports that Franky, as he is affectionately called, has become a legend of the 5th Slobozhanskaya brigade. In May last year, volunteers handed over an almost new Mazda 2500 to the battalion that was defending Balakleya.

“There were no special shelters for vehicles at the plant, on the territory of which the battalion headquarters was located, so Frankenstein immediately felt the consequences of shelling with Grads, cannon artillery and tanks. And the bullet holes received during field trips to positions, the guards stopped counting even in Balakliya there are many of them, and outwardly Franky resembles a colander on wheels," the message says.

The car survived remote mining, it was filled up with fragments of concrete slabs and bricks, but it continued to work. “It was near Balakliya that this car received its signature “tuning”, worthy of the next Mad Max series. And the call sign appeared there, because there was simply no point in repairing the body, because next exit shrapnel and ball lesions reappeared, and that’s all repair capacity was limited to repairing minor damage to the engine and frame, which proved to be surprisingly durable in this miracle of the Japanese car industry," they add.

Subsequently, Franky drove to Verbovka, took with his brothers Izyum, Podliman, forded the Oskol, and now he is fighting in the Serebryansky Forest. If we count only the wounded who were taken out, then hundreds of lives were saved by car. In addition, they carried out flights with BC and reinforcements to the front lines.

“And God created Franchi, and gave him reliability, and handed him over to us by act, and said - take care of him. And it was good,” jokes the deputy battalion commander for logistics with the call sign Tower 5.

The National Guardsmen note that the car has not received serious damage, although only the engine and frame remain its "relatives". After the war, they want to give it to the museum.

Behind the thousands of soldiers fighting in the counter-offensive are engineers and technicians who perform important and often dangerous work.

Behind the thousands of Ukrainian troops who have gathered along the 100-mile front line for the counteroffensive is a small army of mechanics, engineers and gunsmiths responsible for keeping the growing fleet of Ukrainian tanks, armored vehicles and other Western-made equipment in working order.

According to The New York Times, they work in lumber camps or abandoned buildings miles from the front lines, or as mobile emergency teams, delivering their services to military units where they are deployed to avoid towing equipment on long trips to base. or even overseas factories.

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/15/world/europe/ukraine-war-mechanics-tanks.html

"Vehicles are now needed at the front, and this way allows us to quickly return them to the front line," said Major Valery Shershen, head of communications of the Ukrainian Logistics Command. Quoting General John J. Pershing, commander of the American Expeditionary Force in World War I, he added: "Infantry wins battles, logistics wins wars."

Mechanics dare to enter the battlefield, moving through minefields and artillery fire to find and repair broken or blown up vehicles.

One of the battalion's deputy commanders spoke of at least six mechanics from his unit who had died in recent months.

Since its launch in early June, the Ukrainian counter-offensive has suffered heavy losses, with dozens of vehicles damaged and destroyed in dense minefields and under heavy air and artillery fire.

The losses were a heavy blow for Ukraine and forced the military command to adjust its tactics. Meanwhile, mechanics and engineers rush to return the wrecked NATO vehicles, as well as captured Russian equipment, to restore their functionality.

Recently, in a forest camp of the 37th Marine Brigade, not far from the front line, battered vehicles were hidden under the trees and draped with camouflage net, awaiting repairs.

"We were prepared for damaged equipment - this is war," said Igor, 57, a deputy commander for armaments and maintenance, who uses the call sign "Blago" and gave only his first name for security reasons.

He led a group of The New York Times journalists around the camp, which was divided into separate sections for the repair of armored vehicles, tanks and artillery pieces.

Some of the vehicles were beyond repair, their wheels and engines were damaged by mine explosions, and their bodies were torn apart by rocket and artillery fire. But Igor said that over the past month, his teams have managed to repair more than 40 NATO armored vehicles and eight tanks in the camp, often taking parts from damaged ones.

"We're trying to reuse everything," he said. He approached a burned-out American-made Oshkosh armored car. "We can't fix it," he said, "but it will become a donor - its parts will allow us to repair seven more cars."

Ukrainian forces, of necessity, used captured Russian armored vehicles and weapons. In one yard, the chief of armaments and maintenance for the 35th Marine Brigade, using the call sign Molot, said the brigade had captured more than 20 Russian vehicles in the past six weeks of fighting.

Among the "trophies" - eight Russian multi-purpose combat vehicles, which were not in the brigade before, and the T-72 tank.

"Without captured Russian cars, we would not be able to continue moving," he said.

However, the Ukrainian military has begun to appreciate the protection provided by the robust armor of various NATO vehicles, which saves more lives than old Soviet equipment. Even as soldiers and marines suffered heavy casualties in recent combat in the counter-offensive, many of them survived in NATO vehicles, the Marines say. Critically, thanks to the quick repairs, NATO vehicles continued to be used.

"The Russians cannot understand what is happening. A few days, and the car is back on the battlefield. Thus, they become indestructible," the soldier said.

On August 14-20, the Army-2023 forum is being held in Moscow. As analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) state, the Kremlin is using the event to strengthen bilateral relations with other states and to demonstrate itself as a reliable and technologically advanced partner.

In particular, the top leadership of the Russian Federation held meetings with officials from Myanmar, Pakistan, Cambodia, Laos, Bangladesh and Djibouti, presented several Iranian drones and talked about the integration of artificial intelligence into Russian weapons and control systems.

Also, the Russian authorities flaunted the achievements of their military-industrial complex, the expediency of which analysts doubted.

“On August 15, at the Moscow Conference on International Security, [Russian Defense Minister Sergei] Shoigu stated that the Russian Defense Industrial Base (OPB) had been producing various weapons, tanks, armored vehicles and drones for some time, and argued that the capabilities of Russian and Soviet equipment Shoigu argued that Western sanctions against Russia have helped increase domestic production of military equipment through import substitution at OPB facilities, part of the Kremlin’s long-standing (and inaccurate) narrative, used since 2014, that international sanctions strengthen Russia. Shoigu argued that, on the contrary, Ukrainian resources and Western military arsenals are almost completely depleted. However, according to the ISW, Russia has not been able to mobilize its OPB to adequately support the military effort," the report says.

At the event, dictator Vladimir Putin and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu also, in the spirit of Russian propaganda, accused Western countries of creating instability in Ukraine and other countries.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 at the Moscow Conference on International Security repeated unsubstantiated claims that the West is responsible for "fueling the conflict" in Ukraine, ... in creating instability in Africa, Latin America, and Asia," analysts say.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin recently ordered to resume preparations for a man-made disaster at the Kursk nuclear power plant, the Russians plan to implement the criminal plan in late August and early September.

The Telegram channel "General SVR" says that almost "simultaneously with the man-made disaster at the Kursk NPP, a similar action is being prepared at the Zaporizhzhya NPP." "The Russian leadership will declare the double catastrophe as a "terrorist attack" on nuclear facilities, which they will blame Ukraine for," the channel notes.

According to him, the leader of the Russians is ready to provoke radiation pollution of vast territories of Ukraine, the Russian Federation, Belarus and other countries, colossal civilian casualties in order for his country to get out of the strategic impasse in which it found itself during a full-scale war against the Ukrainian state.

The material notes that the dictator demands an "effective" and quick solution to the Russian problem, since he does not have time to "expect a miracle from the Russian troops" - "he is seriously ill with no chance of recovery." According to the media, the leader of the country sees the solution to the problem of the Russian Federation in "creating an even more acute crisis."

“Now the situation has developed that these criminal plans of the President of Russia are supported by part of the leadership of the power and military blocs, and instead of blocking Putin’s crazy ideas, these plans receive support and are being prepared for implementation…”, the channel shared.

"General SVR" emphasizes that several attempts by "enemy" drones to allegedly attack Kurchatov are nothing more than provocations agreed with the Russian military leadership, the leadership of the FSB and personally with Putin to show "the readiness of the Ukrainian side for nuclear terror."

What is known about the Russians preparing a provocation at the Kursk nuclear power plant

At the end of last year, it became known that the Russian invaders stored missiles at the nuclear power plant located in the city of Kurchatov, and also service them there. Ukrainian intelligence did not rule out that Iranian kamikaze drones, with which the enemy attacks our land, could also be stored at the facility.

The Ukrainian side called on international organizations to verify this information. Later, journalists learned that the Russian authorities wanted to carry out a terrorist act at the Kurchatov nuclear power plant. After that, the Center for National Resistance, referring to information from the underground, reported that preparations were underway in the Kursk region for the evacuation of the population from the zone of possible radioactive contamination in the event of an accident at a power plant.

Ukraine is seeking the supply of M26 DCIPM unguided cluster rocket munitions from the United States for HIMARS and M270 MLRS multiple launch rocket systems. They are an even more advanced version than the type of cluster munition that Ukraine is now receiving, writes Newsweek.

https://www.newsweek.com/ukraine-gamechanger-himars-upgrade-win-war-dcipm-cluster-munitions-counteroffensive-artillery-1820071

Long-range missiles armed with cluster rocket munitions are the key to overcoming the layered Russian defense, said Dan Rice, a former US Army officer and former adviser to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"If you get 2,000 cluster rocket munitions, I think the war will end. It's that simple," said Rice, who, according to Newsweek, had a hand in an earlier decision to transfer 155mm artillery cluster munitions to Ukraine.

According to Rice, the M26 DCIPM will allow Ukrainian troops to more effectively hunt down Russian artillery, the main killer on the battlefield that constantly harasses Ukrainian units trying to break through Russian defenses. He noted that at a distance of up to 25 kilometers, Russians are now being successfully destroyed by 155-millimeter cluster shells for cannon artillery. But further inland, the Russians could use rocket-propelled cluster shells with a range of up to 45 kilometers.

"The Russian frontline battalions will be destroyed and the rear echelon will be destroyed. We have tens of thousands of these cluster rockets in Germany, lying around waiting to be disposed of. Instead of destroying them, just give them to the Ukrainians. And they will win the war," Rice said.

He noted that American units never go into battle unless they have artillery support armed with DCIPM rockets.

“And if the commander was ordered to fight without it, they would call it an illegal order and resign because you are not giving American soldiers what they need,” Rice explained.

He also noted that Ukraine requested cluster shells for barreled artillery and cluster rockets for HIMARS at the same time more than a year ago. Now cluster shells are finally being delivered, but rocket-propelled cluster shells are still not.

"Congress speaks out loud: we have approved cluster munitions for artillery; missiles have exactly the same sub-express, but we are not going to approve missiles. It's just hypocrisy," says Rice.

On February 24, Russia launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Russian troops are shelling and destroying key infrastructure facilities,

conducting massive shelling of residential areas of Ukrainian cities and villages.

I am in the capital of Ukraine, the city of Kyiv.
I do not leave the city, I follow what is happening here, reassure my family and friends, explain the situation and follow the press reports.

A lot of panic messages, a lot of fake news from Russian propaganda.
I select only the information that has confirmation.
As a former military man (in the distant past), I have a good understanding of how hostilities are conducted and what weapons are used.

I will answer all your questions.

Since February 24, Russia has attacked Ukraine, many cities of Ukraine have been destroyed.

Because of the war, I lost my business in Ukraine, if you want to help me and my family, my Paypal is: Alex.Sor.2022@gmail.com

21 August - International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism.
the Russian Federation is a terrorist state, one of the goals of whose political regime is the genocide of the Ukrainian people, physical destruction, mass murders of Ukrainian citizens, the commission of international crimes against the civilian population, the use of prohibited methods of war, the destruction of civilian objects and critical infrastructure objects, artificial creation of a humanitarian disaster in Ukraine, its individual regions and the world.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine, together with all of Ukraine, remember all the victims of Russian terror against Ukraine from February 20, 2014, from February 24, 2022, as well as during all previous centuries.
The political regime of the Russian Federation is Nazi in nature and practice and ideologically follows the National Socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regime.
Russia is a terrorist state and a state sponsor of terrorism, which openly, using its own armed forces, other armed formations, or covertly, using armed formations acting on behalf and (or) in the interests of such a state, commits terrorist acts, acts of international terrorism.
bodies of the terrorist state - Russia, are state authorities, including law enforcement agencies (militia, police, etc.), armed forces, judicial authorities, internal troops, special purpose units, bodies responsible for guarding and protecting the state border, bodies, responsible for the implementation of tax and customs policy, bodies responsible for conducting inquiries or pre-trial (preliminary) investigations, the prosecutor's office, bodies responsible for state security or the security of the top leadership of the terrorist state (aggressor state), units responsible for the implementation of peacekeeping missions, other armed, military, paramilitary, paramilitary or other force formations of the terrorist state (aggressor state), their components or structural subdivisions, including formations whose names do not correspond to the official names adopted in the terrorist state (aggressor state), but which according to the performed functions belong to the specified bodies or formations, as well as mass media in which the terrorist state (aggressor state) has a share of ownership (corporate rights) directly or through third parties, including through state authorities, bodies local government, state enterprises, etc.
Ukraine has always fought back and resisted the Russian terrorist, who filled the entire 20th century with continuous acts of misanthropy by the Kremlin's Moscow Commune-terrorism against Ukraine: the use of Holodomor as an instrument of genocide of the Ukrainian people in 1921-1923, 1932-1933 and 1946-1947, the use of repressive terrorist apparatus of law enforcement and punitive bodies of the evil country - the USSR for the destruction of millions of innocent civilian representatives of the Ukrainian people in concentration camps and exiles.
The entire Soviet era was a time of great terror against Ukraine and all independent and free peoples of Europe and the world.
Every day, Russia kills people on our Ukrainian land. People die in their apartments, in city squares, in shopping centers and medical institutions from Russian missiles, shells, bullets and debris. We sympathize with all the families who lost their loved ones and those who became victims of terrorist attacks.
The terrorist state will be punished for all the evil it does both insidiously and openly against peaceful citizens of Ukraine.
Ukraine confirms the importance of further consolidation of international efforts to counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and strongly condemns it.
The International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of Victims of Terrorism was established by the resolution of the UN General Assembly (A / RES / 72/165) in December 2017. This day is designed to honor the memory of all those who died as a result of terrorist attacks both in Europe and around the world, as well as to support those who lost their loved ones, relatives, acquaintances, who live in society with severe mental and physical injuries - consequences of tragic events. Victims of terrorist attacks cannot always cope with the consequences of terrorism and adjust their future lives. Supporting victims of terrorism and protecting their rights is the main duty of states.
Ukraine continues to insist that states sponsoring terrorism should bear responsibility for gross violations of international law. The fight against individual terrorists and terrorist groups is not enough if the problem of state terrorism is not resolved decisively and comprehensively.
All those responsible for these heinous crimes, including the organizers and sponsors of terrorism, will be brought to justice.
