Lead Distiller - Pottstown, PA

At Manatawny Still Works, our focus is whiskey, particularly our signature Four Grain American whiskeys and our more recently developed American Single Malt whiskey.

We produce grain-to-bottle whiskey, but we also produce rum, gin, brandy, and a GNS vodka. We utilize a 40bbl brew house at the brewery across the street and our stills are sized accordingly. We have a continuous stripping column and a 1200L hybrid pot still. 

 

Description of the Lead Distiller position:

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, knowledgeable, organized, collaborative, and has a passion for craft spirits. The Lead Distiller will report to our president and be relied upon for the bulk of the production work. They will be expected to execute all aspects of production, including, but not limited to:

·        Fermentation

·        Distillation

·        Barrel Aging

·        Blending

·        Packaging

·        Product Development

·        Maintenance

·        Cleaning

·        Warehousing

·        Recordkeeping

Prerequisites and Expectations of the Lead Distiller:
Applicant must have:

·       A minimum of 2 years of experience in a production distillery.

·       Good mechanical skills.

·       A full understanding of cleaning and sanitation procedures.

·       Willingness and ability to work at least 40 hours per week while maintaining a flexible schedule.

·       A positive attitude in a demanding, repetitive production environment.

·       Strong orientation towards quality control and safety.

·       Ability to multitask and adjust to changing priorities.

·       Attention to detail.

·       Good time management skills.

At Manatawny, each employee takes on varying roles and responsibilities, as necessary, to make the company run, stepping in as needed for distilling, bottling, upkeep, attending events (both at the distillery and off-site), etc.  The Lead Distiller will be expected to accept a variety of obligations at the distillery and wear any hat necessary to help the team.

·       Standing on feet all day.

·       Ability to lift 50 lbs.

·       Heavy physical work (bending, kneeling, pulling hoses, etc.).

·       Working continuously on wet floors and with wet equipment.

·       Working with strong hazardous chemicals.
