Rum Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Looking for 2500 to 3000 liter jacketed fermentation tanks. Any suggestions on stateside suppliers?
Lenny Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Check out Marks Design and Metal Works - http://marksdmw.com/ They're out of Washington. Been hearing great things about their quality, turn time and prices. I just approached them for quotes on a new mashtun and fermenters.
Jason Parker Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 I second Lenny's recommendation. I received three 3,500 liter uni-tanks from them in Oct, 2012. I'm very happy with their quality and service.
Jason Parker Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I'll leave it to Marks Design and Metalworks quote you a price. I received quotes from AAA Metal Fabrication, JVNW, and Spokane Industries, (I try to order locally, whenever possible), and found them most competitive on price and, for my specifications, of higher quality.
Donutboy Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I'll throw another hat into the ring with Practical Fusion in Oregon. They are some former JV guys ( I think JV) that started up their own gig. Colin is who I have been working with and he has been great. http://practicalfusion.com/pictures.html info@practicalfusion.com
stevea Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Apologies is this is a thread diversion, but do cylindro-conicals (as in the links above) make any sense for those fermenting on grist ? Are sloped bottom fermenter, as used for wine a better choice for fermentation on grist ?
Jason Parker Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Great point you make, Steva, My thoughts is that you'd want dish-bottomed fermenters if fermenting on grain, both for efficiency, and cost savings. The cone is used when you wish to crash cool a fermenter and drop the yeast, so you have a clear(ish) wash. I would think the compacted cake at the bottom of a cylindro-conicl fermenter would make removal of the solids damn near impossible.
bluestar Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Yup, larger fermenter, shallower cone if you have solids. But some slope is helpful.
Curtis Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Shipping is also a factor to consider when looking at suppliers.
Confederate Stills Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 3000L = about 800 gallons. I'm Paul Caldwell, Confederate Stills of Alabama, CSA: I'm building cypress fermentation tanks here in Alabama. Now have them from coast to coast. Largest built so far is 600 gallons for 3 Howls distillery in Seattle, Washington. You can see it on their FB page. I have hybrid tanks available above 600 gallons, SS Dished bottms, 3" drains, with cypress sides. Can add copper cooling coils to the inside walls to help keep mash temp down during the summer.
