FrEwing
I had to build a water sprinkler room to store a drum of 190 proof I use to make my liqueurs. Following inspection the building inspector comes up with a new requirement for an explosion proof exhaust fan to be installed. Does anyone have any experience with these and can point me to where I can purchase one. It doesn't need to be large, The room is just 4ft x 6ft x 8ft, (198 cu.ft. ) I can also be reached at (703) 408-2776 or direct email at garofalo4@comcast.net

Max Action
For such a small space, perhaps one of these with some PVC pipe should suffice (still going to cost hundreds of $): http://www.shieldair.com/marc/PDF/documents/FANS/MSFX_Series_Explosion_Proof_Muffin_Fan.pdf
MG Thermal Consulting
The fan, fan motor and junction box, along with wiring must be X-prf as well. Best way to Xprf the junction box (NEMA-12) is to fill with silicon after making sure your wiring is ok (otherwise you'll have a junction box that weighs more than the fan). You need to talk to an electrician familiar with NEMA-7 codes.
tl5612
That sounds like a bit of a nightmare. Would something like this not have been OK? http://www.fueltankshop.co.uk/hazardous_material_storage/secure_drum_storage_-_hazardous/drum_storage_cabinet_(2_drum_-_flammable) They have vents in the side that let air circulate in and out. MG Thermal Consulting
What is done with industrials on larger panels is to positively pressurize with an inert gas (no O2). The Motors can be TEFC bit the wiring must be nema-7 as well as junction boxes. I guess you'll have to ask the inspector if he wants you to use nema-7 throughout. The 6 inch muffin fan is the correct size to meet the zoning requirements. It moves enough cfms to meet the code. Many thanks.

FrEwing
To all who answered this - You're great! I have to move 200 cfm from the room and the 6inch muffin fan does 232 cfm - at $600 it saves me a bunch compared to the larger industrial fans which move 2000 and more at prices in the $1000's. The room is fire proof and sprinkled. I'll be able to add a fireproof cabinet in the future and hopefully still meet the local codes. Pheww!!!, this has been some ride with the zoning people before I can get started making product. Any wanting to talk about the experience or share ideas can give me a call at (703) 408-2776. I also could use additional investment $$$$ Dick Garofalo
