bluestar Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I haven't seen it mentioned here yet, but from our contact with many barrel suppliers, it appears there is a general shortage reflecting spring weather conditions and limited supply of lumbered oak. Are other distillers seeing the same problem?
JohninWV Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 We were asked to give all of our needs for the remainder of the year so they could make sure they could supply us. We heard the same issues you mentioned.
bluestar Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 Also the demand is going up very quickly for the small barrel manufacturers as more craft distillers come on line. We also provided a running order estimate to assure supply.
rumfarmer Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I buy ex-bourbon and neutral whites. No trouble so far, but I don't buy large quantities. What are you guys having trouble finding?
bluestar Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 New charred oak barrels, at reasonable cost. Normal suppliers are all limited.
Jake Holshue Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 I was just parrusing the site to see if anyone else had this issue. Yes we are in a lumbered wood shortage due to wet weather conditions. My rep at ISC said they will not be taking any new orders for 6-8 months. We were lucky to get ours ordered when we did. We ordered a few more to make sure we had enough for a while to make it through the tough times.
