GeekSpirits
I am trying to find a reasonably priced pump to use to pump molasses out of the 55 gallon drums into my mash tank. Anyone have a recommendation on a good one to use?
Palmetto Coast
We buy molasses in totes. They have a handy valve on them. Then we just let gravity do it's thing. Todd
John McKee
Maybe buy a drum heater, get the molasses warm and less viscous and you can probably use an AOD (Air operated diaphragm) pump. Blanket drum heater would be best and you can probably find a much cheaper one somewhere other than Grainger. http://www.grainger.com/product/Blanket-Drum-Heater-3CDC4?s_pp=false Cheers, McKee
Natrat
Heating up the molasses, as everyone else suggests, is very helpful. I found that a $12 drum pump from McMaster worked pretty well after that. Usually I use totes, but when I did use the drum, I just upended it into my mixing vessel, and then rinsed it out with hot water.
