whiskeytango
Any of you guys making your own barrel racks? Looking for alternatives to just buying used metal racks. Not looking to go very high with them probably only two barrels high.
schnit
I'm looking at making my own once I start. If you own a welder or band/jig saw it shouldn't be too difficult to do. When I worked in construction installing wood stoves (very heavy) I used a similar device to this for removing the stove/pallet from the truck...granted, mine had a stair climbing attachment but it worked off the same premise. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200387589_200387589?cm_mmc=Google-pla-_-Material%20Handling-_-Lift%20Tables-_-855662&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=855662&gclid=CPuzqry59bwCFYY7MgodZF8AAQ If you build your own, I'd just make sure it's capable of being used with a pallet lift/forklift. When I get my space I'll be looking into a manual lift since a nice forklift is out of the budget and a cheap/old one can be a big hassle (or a great investment if it doesn't break!). Sorghumrunner
We built our own using pallet racks and lumber. Cost was under $1000 for two racks that hold 32 barrels each. Easy to forklift to, and pretty space economical.
schnit
I'd be interested in seeing them. The easiest way to upload is to go to WWW.imgur. comSelect upload image(s)After upload copy the link on the right for BBCode and past it here. The code will have brackets around an IMG tag which say "IMG link /IMG." (I can't put the brackets in the instructions otherwise the forum will try to display an image)
Sorghumrunner
Thanks, I figured it out. Just being lazy! We built our own using pallet racks and lumber. I can't seem to upload a photo to this post though?? Cost was under $1000 for two racks that hold 32 barrels each. Easy to forklift to, and pretty space economical. I can email photos, or if someone could tell me how to upload. I know I have in the past, but it's asking me for a URL now... I'd be interested in seeing them. The easiest way to upload is to go to WWW.imgur. comSelect upload image(s)After upload copy the link on the right for BBC ode and past it here. schnit
That looks like a marvelously functional minimalist design--it looks easier and lower cost than what I was thinking of doing. Thanks for posting the picture!

Thanks for posting the picture! Yeah it was pretty easy to do. Copied from Woodinville's system. Bought the pallet racks used for a good price, and just had to make sure I had uprights and beams that were the correct dimensions for my barrels and could handle the weight of the barrels when full. My plan is to put another set directly in front of these when my capacity grows, and roll the barrels in and out on a continuous wood rail.
