Ricking Lifts/Barrel Movement and Placement

barrels can be stacked by hand on top of one another. This is done by setting a base layer, usually on two strong beams parrallel to the heads of the barrels and using 4 chalks per barrel-triangular wood wedges. I have seen barrels stacked 4 high with compression straps to secure the ends. or just buy barrel racks from a wine supplier and move them with a forklift.

Wes,

at $10 to $20 used for 2 barrels, consider these:

there are guys here in wine country who refurb these for $41 each - powder coated. new they're around $80 if i can find the guy. ...examples:

the great thing is flexibility - no fixed ricks, just open warehouse on concrete. use a standard forklift, stack 4 high here or 6 high in non-earthquake areas.. 8 to 12 barrels in 16 sqft.

be the first on your block to buck tradition and go modular,

Thanks Will. I have considered this previously, and probably need to take another look because of the flexibility of this option.
