Type of carbon is best used for filtering Ethanol?

Good Evening,

I have recently started to manufacture alcohol. In Zimbabwe we have an alcohol called "Cane", this is your basic 95% ethanol blended down to 40%ABV.

For us to make Vodka, we do the same however we have to filter it, then we can add vodka flavoring etc

I have two (unpressurised)SS filter housing that hold about 35-45kgs of carbon each. 

What I would like to know is, What is the best type of carbon to use?

Coal based or Shell based?

And what size is optimal?

Not sure if it’s the best, but it worked well, 8-30 coconut carbon.
