  1. Hey guys I need a fairly priced flow meter to help move product from one tote tank to another. Im basically going to have one tote on top and theoretically a flow meter attached to it that empties into the tank below.

Something that doesn't cost too much <500$ would be preferable. Main thing is I just need it to be rather accurate.

  2. So one of our last batches of corn that we ordered started to have a boll weevil problem when it arrived. What are y'all doing to kill these bastards? What kind of grain silo management process are you using? I know the farmers are using different pesticide treatments for silos but what is safe to use for our purposes? I think I can get this latest problem under control but going forward I want to make sure I am taking some preventative measures.

We grow soft white currently and hard red in the past. The taste characteristics are similar but the hard red is higher in protein and has a stronger gluten. Plus it mills quite a bit harder. I can't say for sure but the soft white, being higher in carbs and breaks down easier, may yield better.  It's the grain of choice for a local dairy who's cows eat and convert it much better than hard red. (and remember...cows are good methane producers:rolleyes:)

Thanks for the info RF. Where abouts are you growing?

  4. Just flipping through the book Dead Distillers and this is mentioned.

Does anyone have any old pics of this method being utilized?

    What were pros and cons?

Seems like an interesting cliff note in distilling history.

Do you have a forklift?  We are finding a fair bit of success milling into bulk bags and then using a forklift to hold it over a rigid 4" auger (`$1K new) to fill our mash tun.  We use the same auger to go from bulk bags into the mill as well so it serves 2 purposes and we can wheel it our of the way easily.  That way we batch up a weeks worth into bulk bags at once and use them all week.  Not sure that works in your setup but we found it to be the most cost effective methods.  For reference we are running a 300 gallon system here.  Obviously some ceiling height is needed to make that work.

We do have a lift. Which brand auger are you using? Do you have any pics of your setup?

  6. Well the time has come that we need to purchase an auger to keep us from killing our backs lol....

Whats pricing like on these things? Best brands?

Depending on how and where we set it up I think were going to have about 30-50 ft from where our grinder is to our tun.

I would def prefer to stay < 5k$. Is that doable with these systems?

    Thanks a bunch,
