I am looking for someone who can provide me with drawings, designs and specs for a 250 gal whiskey still. I will fabricate everything locally.
Thanks,
Jason

I was wondering if anybody on this forum has explored other alternatives for the heat source of their stills. Instead of using a steam jacket or open flame, how about circulating hot oil around the bottom of the still? Any thoughts?

Hey Toby,
Sorry things didn't work out here in Phoenix. I wish you the best of luck in Chicago and I hope to see some of your spirits down here soon!
Good Luck and Cheers,

Hello Everybody, Just wondering if anybody can point me in the right direction to get some numbers on the Microdistillery Boom. I know that the number of Microdistilleries has doubled within the last couple of years, but how are they doing? What kind of market share do the Microdistilleries have? I have looked at some of the numbers that DISCUS has and it seems that they just have numbers for premium and super-premium brands. What percentage of these catagories do the small producers have?
Cheers,
Jason

Warning: Just opinion here.
I think it's just off the beaten path enough that you might be able to fudge your numbers. Take into consideration how much YOU might want to pay for that 5 year old used still/fermenter/pump. Considering nominal wear and tear, or even deciding what "nominal" is in this industry (will the bank be able to refute your assertions?) it may be a lot of depreciation or virtually none.
Consider the nature of use of each item when considering depreciation. Stills - consider not only wear, but material value (scrap value of copper/stainless) Barrels - depending on use, may be used once or 3-4 times (and sell for $20 per half as garden planters when spent). Tanks and other vessels - perhaps check on some resellers' sites and find comparable items and gauge their cost used versus new and how old they are.
As previously mentioned, bottles and such, as inventory/consumables really aren't subject to depreciation. Although stockpiles that are unusable or unsold become a liability vs. an asset.
Hope it's some food for thought.
Cheers,
Paul
Thank you, Paul. Just trying to add as many assets to the business as I can. Also thank you for approaching the question without prejudice. Jason

I am trying to write a business plan for an SBA loan and would like to find as many assets for the business as I can.

Is there a standard depreciation percentage for Stills, Tanks, Barrels, Bottles, etc..? How well does the equipment hold its value? How much of an asset is the equipment? Thanks, Jason

Thank you guys for your response. You have been a lot of help.

Hello, I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts as far as what is a fair share to give investors i.e. Equity stake, Stock options etc.. Thanks

We are working with a company in Mexico to see if we would be able to ferment the agave wine and bottle here. They are checking with the Mexican authorities to see if we can do this and call it Tequila. Let you know what happens.

Hi Jason!
We will be neighbors! We would like to open a small distillery in Las Vegas next year, so we will be close to each other.
Did you decide already what kind of pot still will you use?
Best wishes and good luck with the "paperwork"!
George

Hello Everybody!! My name is Jason Grossmiller and I am starting a Microdistillery in Tempe, AZ. Our name is Tombstone Spirits. We are currently in the licensing phase. We will be doing a little of everything. We are going to rectify and distill. We are partnering up with a local brewery to make whiskey and we would also like to do a blue agave spirit. JB Wagoner can't do the fight all himself. I look forward to learning as much as possible while on this forum and sharing ideas with anybody who will listen. Cheers!!
